Job summary

Sterling Engineering, Inc. in Lemont, IL, is seeking a Project Engineer for refinery capital projects on 1st shift.

This long-term, open-ended contract offers ownership from scope development through commissioning and startup, collaborating with process, electrical/instrumentation, reliability, operations, and construction teams. You will plan, organize, and execute projects, manage scope, budgets, schedules, and change control, oversee outside resources, lead MOC and PSSRs, and ensure safety,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of Project Engineering experience in a refinery.
  • Experience managing engineering or capital projects from concept through execution.
  • Strong understanding of scope, cost, scheduling, and change management.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and execute capital projects from scope development through commissioning and startup.
  • Develop and maintain project scope, budgets, schedules, cost forecasts, and performance objectives.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams across Process, Electrical/Instrumentation, Reliability, Operations, and Construction.
  • Monitor costs, cash flow, schedules, and overall project performance.
  • Lead MOC and Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews to ensure startup readiness.
