United Employment Group, Inc. is seeking a Structural Project Engineer to lead the structural design of steel and precast concrete projects. You will perform design tasks, coordinate with consultants, and ensure drawings meet specifications.

Key responsibilities include reviewing shop drawings, visiting sites, coordinating with drafting teams, and delivering cost‑effective, code‑compliant solutions. PE licensure and AutoCAD proficiency are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Proficient with Excel, Word, Outlook; AutoCAD a plus.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings.
  • Willingness to travel and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of construction techniques and procedures.
  • Complete designs safely and cost effectively while complying with codes.
  • Review shop drawings against specs and criteria.
  • Visit jobsites and manufacturing facilities for inspections.
  • Coordinate with outside engineering and drafting resources.
  • Lead project drafters on structural drawings and submittals.
  • Attend and organize project meetings and design coordination sessions.

Job description

The Structural Project Engineer is responsible for the structural design of steel and precast concrete manufacturing division projects. The Structural Project Engineer will accomplish this by performing the necessary structural design tasks for a given project, and or coordinate with outside professional consultants to complete the structural design and drawings.

Job Duties:
Design
  • Maintain knowledge of current building codes, industry standards, and design practices.
  • Analyze structures for in-service lateral stability
  • Design structural connections between various building components and materials
  • Design steel and precast components for applicable loading and deflection criteria, shipping and handling, etc..
  • Utilize structural design software as applicable to complete analysis and design.
  • Review temporary construction loading, bracing, and rigging requirements
  • Create an organized, complete set of calculations for submission to the General Contractor and Engineer-of-Record.
Construction Review and Engineering Project Management
  • Review shop drawings to ensure they meet specifications of the construction documents and structural design criteria.
  • Visit jobsites and manufacturing plant facilities for completeness inspections.
  • Respond to and solve manufacturing plant and field issues in a timely manner.
  • Manage outside engineering and drafting resources, ensuring manufacturing division standards are upheld and schedules are maintained.
  • Oversee completion of submittal and fabrication drawings, utilizing discretion and independent judgment, ensuring designs are accurately depicted on drawings and details.
  • Oversee and manage Project Drafters developing structural steel and precast submittal and fabrication drawings.
  • Attend and organize, as applicable, project kick-off meetings, meetings with the design team, pre-production meetings, pre-erection meetings, coordination meetings, etc..
Employment Standards:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineers License (PE)
  • Proficient with a computer with working knowledge of Excel or similar spreadsheet application, Word, Outlook, and other design related software as necessary.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Proficient in providing cost effective field problem solving skills.
  • Proficient in safety regulations and quality control related items.
  • The ability to speak effectively in front of groups of management officials, employees or customers, to present information and respond to questions in a clear and effective manner.
  • The ability to manage employees, resolve conflicts, promote team building and be a team leader.
  • The ability to learn, organize and prioritize work, delegate tasks as deemed necessary, handle multiple tasks, work independently, recognize issues and solve problems.
  • The ability to read and understand documents, drawings and follow instructions (whether presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form).
  • The ability to work with mathematical concepts and to apply concepts to practical situations.
  • The ability to travel out of town for training.
  • The ability to travel between the office and jobsites in a timely and effective manner.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
Responsibilities:

The Structural Project Engineer reports to the Director of Engineering. Will be expected to maintain current knowledge of construction techniques and procedures. Will be expected to complete designs in the most productive and cost effective manner while maintaining safety and all applicable code requirements. Will be expected to use sound judgment, diplomacy, discretion, self-drive and honesty in carrying out the functions of the job.
