Job description

Overview

Are you ready to make a measurable impact on the future of nuclear energy? ENERCON is seeking a Project Engineer to support Power Uprate initiatives within our Nuclear Services Group. This is a high‑visibility role where your work will directly contribute to increasing reactor output and optimizing performance at nuclear facilities across the country.

As a Project Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of planning and executing complex engineering tasks that drive energy efficiency and reliability. You’ll collaborate with industry‑leading technical experts, seasoned project managers, and client stakeholders to deliver solutions that are safe, cost‑effective, and regulatory‑compliant.

If you're ready to contribute to high‑impact energy solutions and grow your career in a dynamic, mission‑driven environment, we encourage you to apply and explore this exciting opportunity.

This role offers flexibility in the following locations:

  • Birmingham, AL
  • San Luis Obispo, CA
  • Palm Beach Gardens, FL
  • Kennesaw, GA
  • Naperville, IL
  • Overland Park, KS
  • Baton Rouge, LA
  • King of Prussia, PA
  • Chattanooga, TN
  • Fort Worth, TX
  • Remote – considered for candidates that are senior and above
Responsibilities
  • Lead strategic discussions, align team to ensure quality and deadlines are met, keep clients informed and engaged, manage budgets, refine proposals, and identify new opportunities – all while motivating your team to turn every challenge into a win.
  • Strategic Impact: Power uprates are rapidly becoming a cornerstone of U.S. energy policy, driven by recently passed legislation aimed at accelerating clean energy deployment. This role places you at the center of that transformation. Power uprates are the quickest and most cost‑effective way to bring more nuclear power online.
  • Career Springboard: With the U.S. targeting a fourfold increase in nuclear capacity—from ~100 GW today to 400 GW by 2050—power uprates are anticipated to contribute approximately 8 GW. To meet this ambitious goal, the industry will soon shift focus to designing and constructing new reactors, including advanced and small modular reactor technologies. This role positions you to transition seamlessly into those future projects, giving you a front‑row seat to the next generation of nuclear development.
  • Mentorship & Growth: Work alongside senior subject matter experts (SMEs) who will provide hands‑on mentorship and help you develop into a future power uprate specialist.
  • Leadership Pathways: This role is designed to groom engineers for leadership—whether you choose to specialize technically, lead teams, or guide future uprate studies and modifications.
  • Collaborative Culture: Join a team that values innovation, knowledge‑sharing, and continuous improvement.
  • Leadership & Coordination: Provide interdisciplinary coordination for design engineering projects and serve as a technical leader to ensure the project solution and quality goals are met. Manage client interactions and negotiate/control project scope to client and company's satisfaction. Foster and maintain working relations with assigned clients and act as a single point of contact for assigned projects.
  • Project Management Excellence: Plan, execute, and finalize projects according to established schedule and within budget. Understand project schedules, project management plans, and manage project staff to ensure project requirements are met. Formulate and develop detailed project reports. Understand project financials and be able to report regularly to management on financial status and overall project performance.
  • Strategic Growth & Innovation: Work with technical staff to develop winning, highly technical engineering proposals. Aggressively support marketing efforts, including identification of new opportunities, proposal preparation, and follow‑up.
Qualifications
  • Design Engineering experience with the modification and implementation process, calculations, specifications, etc. in power facilities.
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in the nuclear, power, or industrial industries as an Engineer or Project Manager.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear or Chemical Engineering (or related) OR PMP Certification and 10 years’ applicable experience.
  • PE license strongly preferred.
  • Ability to understand and work with budget and accounting processes.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, strategic planning, writing, communication, decision‑making, and presentation skills.
  • Effective communication skills with demonstrated ability to work across disciplines and teams.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to gain and maintain unescorted access at nuclear sites.
  • Ability to travel between 10‑15% of the time; duration of travel may vary depending on project and client needs, ranging from a few days to a few weeks.
Pay Range

USD $120,000.00 – USD $175,000.00 /Yr.
