Job summary

NES is seeking a Project Engineer to bridge field operations and project management on mission-critical electrical construction projects, including data centers. You will help ensure schedules, coordination, and readiness for execution while interfacing with field teams and project leadership.

You will work in a fast-paced environment, traveling to active job sites as needed, and contribute to maintaining safety, quality, and client objectives on high-profile projects.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent construction experience.
• Exposure to commercial, industrial, electrical, or mission-critical construction.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.

Responsibilities

• Track installation progress and percentage complete for electrical scopes.
• Maintain accurate progress reporting for scheduling and forecasting.
• Coordinate with field leadership to verify work by self-perform crews and subcontractors.
• Support project schedules with timely field updates and activity status.
• Participate in look-ahead planning to remove constraints on labor, materials, equipment, drawings, access, and sequencing.
• Verify installation readiness with materials, equipment, drawings, and BIM coordination.
• Identify constructability issues and RFIs through resolution.
• Coordinate with subcontractors and project teams on upcoming work.
• Maintain regular field presence to verify progress and support coordination.

What You'll Do

As a Project Engineer, reporting to the Assistant Project Manager, you will support project execution from planning through installation by:

• Tracking installation progress, productivity, and percentage complete for assigned electrical scopes.


• Maintaining accurate progress reporting to support scheduling, forecasting, and project performance.


• Working closely with field leadership to validate work completed by self-perform crews and subcontractors.


• Supporting project schedules by providing timely field updates and verifying activity status.


• Participating in look-ahead planning to identify and remove constraints related to labor, materials, equipment, drawings, access, and sequencing.


• Verifying installation readiness by confirming materials, equipment, prefabricated assemblies, drawings, and BIM coordination are available.


• Identifying constructability issues and design conflicts while preparing and tracking RFIs through resolution.


• Coordinating with subcontractors and project teams to communicate progress and prepare upcoming work activities.


• Maintaining a regular presence in the field to verify work progress, identify potential issues, and support project coordination.


• Helping ensure projects remain aligned with schedule milestones, safety expectations, quality standards, and client objectives.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, or a related field, or equivalent construction experience.


• Exposure to commercial, industrial, electrical, or mission-critical construction through internships, co-ops, military service, or professional experience.


• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.


• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.


• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.


• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.


• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.


• Experience with construction management software, document control systems, scheduling software, or BIM platforms.


• Experience supporting electrical, commercial, industrial, or data center construction projects.

Work Environment

This position offers a combination of office and field responsibilities with regular time spent on active construction sites.

You will regularly collaborate with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, clients, vendors, and leadership while supporting mission-critical construction projects. Some travel may be required based on project needs.

Physical Requirements

• Walk active construction sites, including uneven terrain, stairs, and ladders.


• Perform site inspections in indoor and outdoor environments.


• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).


• Occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds.


• Travel between project locations as needed.
