We are seeking an experienced Technical Project Engineer to support the delivery, installation, integration, and commissioning of critical infrastructure across large-scale data center projects.
The successful candidate will have strong experience managing Owner Furnished Contractor Installed (OFCI) equipment, coordinating vendors and construction teams, and supporting equipment through procurement, delivery, installation, startup, commissioning, and final turnover.
This position will act as a technical interface between the owner, engineering teams, general contractor, trade partners, equipment manufacturers, commissioning teams, and operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate OFCI equipment throughout the project lifecycle, from procurement and submittal review through delivery, installation, startup, commissioning, and turnover.
- Track equipment schedules, procurement status, manufacturing milestones, FAT dates, shipping, site delivery, installation readiness, and commissioning requirements.
- Coordinate directly with OEMs, vendors, general contractors, subcontractors, commissioning agents, engineering teams, and owner representatives.
- Support technical review of equipment submittals, shop drawings, specifications, RFIs, installation requirements, and vendor documentation.
- Ensure OFCI equipment is installed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, manufacturer requirements, and project standards.
- Participate in and coordinate Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), startup, Functional Performance Testing (FPT), and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
- Support commissioning activities across L1–L5, including installation verification, startup, functional testing, integrated testing, and final turnover.
- Coordinate commissioning schedules and ensure equipment is ready to meet required energization, startup, and testing milestones.Identify technical issues, installation deficiencies, and commissioning constraints and drive them through resolution.
- Manage punch lists and commissioning deficiencies while coordinating corrective actions between vendors and construction teams.
- Review and support development of commissioning procedures, test scripts, checklists, Method of Procedures (MOPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and equipment startup documentation.
- Coordinate equipment interfaces across electrical, mechanical, controls, BMS/EPMS, fire/life safety, and other critical systems.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, equipment trackers, commissioning records, test reports, and turnover packages.
- Participate in project coordination meetings and provide updates regarding equipment status, technical risks, commissioning readiness, and schedule impacts.
- Support final documentation, closeout, training, and handover of commissioned systems to the operations team.
Required Experience
- Previous experience as a Project Engineer, Technical Project Engineer, Commissioning Engineer, Equipment Engineer, OFCI Project Manager, or similar position within mission-critical construction.
- Strong OFCI experience is required, including coordination of equipment from procurement/manufacturing through installation and commissioning.
- Demonstrated experience supporting data center commissioning and equipment startup activities.
- Working knowledge of the L1–L5 commissioning process.
- Experience with mission-critical equipment such as switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, generators, PDUs/RPPs, ATS/STS equipment, chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, pumps, CDUs, cooling systems, BMS, and EPMS.
- Experience coordinating OEMs and equipment vendors through FAT, delivery, installation, startup, testing, and turnover.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, one-lines, P&IDs, equipment specifications, submittals, sequence of operations, and commissioning documentation.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing and the relationship between equipment installation, energization, startup, and commissioning.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced construction environment and managing multiple technical workstreams simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across engineering, construction, vendors, commissioning, and client teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience within data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial construction, power generation, or similar technically complex environments.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline preferred.
- Experience on hyperscale, high-density, or AI data center projects is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with platforms such as Procore, CxAlloy, Bluebeam, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar project/commissioning management systems.
- Experience managing long-lead critical equipment and working directly with major OEMs is highly desirable.
