Job summary

Global Cellulose Fibers is seeking a Project Engineer to support the Port Wentworth Mill with capital projects, major maintenance, and equipment upgrades. The role collaborates with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering, Purchasing, and contractors to safely deliver improvements in performance, uptime, and asset reliability.

Minimum a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 3+ years' experience in industrial capital projects and field execution.

About The Role:

This role supports the Port Wentworth Mill through the planning and execution of capital projects, major maintenance repairs, mechanical equipment upgrades, infrastructure improvements, and reliability-driven projects. The Project Engineer will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering, Purchasing, contractors, and vendors to safely deliver projects that improve equipment performance, uptime, cost, safety, and long-term asset reliability.

  • Perform engineering calculations, field investigations, technical evaluations, and project support activities related to capital projects, major maintenance repairs, equipment upgrades, and mill improvement initiatives.
  • Understand and support capital and non-capital project delivery process and help define project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals, mill safety, reliability, and improvement efforts
  • Collaborate with more experienced engineers to provide follow-up and engineering assistance on defined problems
  • Prepare or assist in preparing reports, graphs, planning layouts, and summaries designed to communicate project progress or results
  • Manage assigned project tasks while continuing to develop project management, field execution, and mill operations expertise.
  • Understand and execute work in a manner consistent with safety procedures and practices with some guidance
  • Provide timely project updates through written and verbal communication, including reports, meeting updates, email, schedules, action items, and project documentation.
  • Develop relationships with teams and process areas as needed with each assignment
  • Interact with other mill departments such as Operations, Maintenance, Purchasing, etc. to achieve assignment objectives
  • Support capital and non-capital projects from scope development through installation, start-up, and close-out
  • Support major maintenance repair work, outage-related projects, and reliability improvements
  • Assist with project budgets, schedules, estimates, contractor bids, purchase requisitions, and project documentation
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Purchasing, and Safety during project planning and execution
  • Participate in field walks, equipment evaluations, job planning, contractor coordination, installation support, and start-up activities
  • Help identify safety, reliability, cost, and operational risks and develop practical solutions
  • Relevant project work may involve mechanical systems and mill infrastructure such as pumps, piping, tanks, ductwork, conveyors, cranes, HVAC, structural steel, utilities, boiler-related systems, rotating equipment, and other facility or process equipment.
About You: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years experience supporting capital projects, maintenance projects, equipment repairs, reliability improvements, contractor coordination, outage/shutdown work, or field execution in an industrial environment
  • Experience with executing capital project development following gated (Front-End Loading) process.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with hourly employees, salaried leaders, vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams
