Job summary

FlatironDragados in Virginia Beach is seeking a Project Engineer - MEP to monitor costs and drive project performance on a landmark infrastructure project along the Chesapeake Bay Bridge‑Tunnel corridor.

You will review schedules, track quantities, manage RFIs, and coordinate with field crews to ensure budgets are controlled and milestones are met in a complex marine construction environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
  • 3+ years of construction engineering experience is required.
  • Experience with resource monitoring techniques such as cost accounting and estimating is preferred.
  • Ability to identify budget and project costs and suggest delay-mitigation options.
  • Knowledge of design-build, financial reporting methods, and cost coding is preferred.
  • Knowledge of construction scheduling and time management is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with engineering and field crews to review production schedules and confirm materials and resources.
  • Review shop drawings, design specs, material requirements and project data.
  • Provide technical input for project work plans and scheduling.
  • Identify risk elements that could impact budget or schedule.
  • Evaluate daily production, schedule and budget projections and report performance.
  • Update project schedule weekly for owner and management reporting.
  • Prepare and manage a three-week work plan and communicate changes.
  • Initiate and manage all RFIs.
  • Remit accurate project quantities using cost coding to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Coordinate invoicing with accounting for materials, equipment and subs.
  • Review certificates, permits, and safety documents as required.
  • Ensure a safe and compliant work environment through JHAs.

Ready to drive financial accuracy and project success? As a Project Engineer - MEP, you will track and analyze cost data, ensuring our projects stay on budget. Your expertise in resource monitoring and control, combined with your construction knowledge, will keep our projects running smoothly and efficiently. Join our landmark infrastructure project that is expanding one of the East Coast’s most iconic and vital transportation corridors, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge ‑ Tunnel. This 17.6 ‑ mile bridge ‑ tunnel complex, recognized as an engineering marvel of the modern world, is undergoing a major design ‑ build expansion with the construction of the Parallel Thimble Shoal Tunnel to enhance capacity, safety, and reliability for travelers between Virginia Beach and the Eastern Shore. The new bored tunnel (a first ‑ of ‑ its ‑ kind in the Mid ‑ Atlantic) will carry southbound traffic while the existing tunnel will carry northbound traffic, significantly improving traffic flow and operational redundancy. This project offers an exceptional opportunity to work on challenging marine construction, deep foundation, and tunnel structures that will have a lasting impact on regional mobility and commerce.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Meet with engineering and field crews to review production schedule and confirm all materials, equipment and resources.
  • Review all shop drawings, design specifications, material requirements and project data.
  • Provides technical input for project work plan and scheduling.
  • Identify risk elements of production, materials, equipment or process that could negatively impact the budget or schedule.
  • Evaluate daily production, schedule and budget projections to accurately track project performance.
  • Update project schedule weekly for owner and management reporting.
  • Prepare and manage a three-week work plan. Notifies engineering and project management of any significant schedule changes and develops solutions to mitigate delays and cost.
  • Initiate and manage all Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Remit accurate project quantities using assigned project cost coding to ensure project financials are accurately reported.
  • Manage invoicing with accounting team regarding materials, equipment and subcontractor needs.
  • Review certificates and permits needed to perform work.
  • Review required Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) to ensure a safe and compliance work environment for all construction personnel.
  • Coordinates subcontractor work methods, schedule and crews as needed.
What We Are Looking For
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • 3+ years construction engineering experience.
  • Experience in resource monitoring techniques (i.e. cost accounting, basic estimating) and construction technology, process systems and/or structures preferred.
  • Able to identify budget and project costs and recommend options to mitigate project delays.
  • Knowledge of design build and other alternative build techniques.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting methods, quantity tracking methods and cost coding.
  • Knowledge of construction scheduling and production time management preferred.
