Job summary

Adhesives Research, Inc. is seeking a senior engineer to lead and execute capital projects from concept to validation. You will develop state-of-the-art processes and technologies, driving improvements and cost reductions across production facilities.

Job description

Lead and execute all aspects of capital projects, from concept through validation. Leverage experience and utilize expertise to drive continuous improvements, propose process changes, and partner with management to develop best practices for the engineering department and company.

Essential Functions:
  • Lead and execute all aspects of capital projects including: the planning, schedule, design, specification, cost estimate, justification, installation/construction, commissioning, and qualification of projects with large scope and importance as the individual projects require; assures all outcomes are robust and yield reliable, high quality output.
  • Develop and implement “State of the Art” processes, equipment, and facility technologies to increase capabilities, improve quality, increase productivity, reduce costs, and reduce safety risks with management through the annual capital planning process and ongoing equipment and facility projects.
  • Execute engineering projects with unique or controversial problems, which have an important effect on major company initiatives including the development and maintenance of our products, equipment, and facilities.
  • Perform work that involves diversified engineering principles and practices, which leads to unique solutions.
  • Make decisions independently on engineering problems and methods, including discussions with customers.
  • Benchmark our equipment and facilities against the industry best and recommend strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Provide teams with expertise in project management, capability and design of equipment and facilities.
  • Interface with external contractors, vendors, engineering companies, and design firms.
  • Write SOP’s, equipment installation and operational qualification protocols, summary reports, technical reports, and capital justification reports.
  • Apply expertise to the development of specifications for process equipment and facilities
  • Write equipment operating instructions, lockout/tagout procedures, and preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with other associates, Engineers, Supervisors, Product Development Scientists and other AR associates, while maintaining the self-confidence and self-esteem of others; voluntarily assist other associates, and communicate effectively to prevent problems from occurring.
  • Align independent actions consistent with overall business strategies and priorities.
  • Participate in and assist with training, where applicable.
  • Collaborate in the development of new products, processes, equipment, and facilities.
  • Participate in problem solving and take initiative to make improvements applying proper change control procedures.
  • Assist in technology transfer between facilities or between similar equipment in the same facility.
  • Conducts all aspects of position in a professional, respectful manner consistent with AR Guiding Principles; embraces 6S LEAN culture; organizes personal work areas and appearance consistent with corporate and divisional professional image
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Specifications:
  • B.S. degree in Engineering
  • A minimum of 10 years related experience
  • A self starting team player that can handle multiple and changing priorities
  • Strong problem solving, decision making, and project management skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Communicate fluently in English
  • Tolerate odors and noise associated with manufacturing operations
  • Travel throughout the manufacturing areas, buildings and campus to allow personal observations of equipment and facilities associated with responsibilities
  • Travel to customer and vendor facilities as required
  • Accommodate a flexible work schedule
  • Computer literate. Proficiency in MS Office and Auto Cad a plus
  • Mixing, coating, drying, web handling, or slitting operations and equipment experience a plus
  • GMP experience is a plus
  • Product development and technology transfer experience is a plus
  • Environmental, zoning, and safety regulation experience is a plus
