Job summary

Axiom Space is seeking a resilient Project Engineer IV to support Environmental Control and Life Support Systems for our first commercial space station. Based onsite at the Spaceport Facility, you will coordinate complex technical programs from concept to completion and report to the Mechanical Project Engineering Manager.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 8–11 years of leading engineering projects.
  • Experience with Environmental Control and Life Support Systems spaceflight hardware design.
  • Experience with NASA requirements, contracts, and spaceflight certification.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project).
  • Experience with SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD; PDM systems like SOLIDWORKS PDM.
  • Experience with project management tools (MS Project, Primavera P6); Atlassian suite.
  • Track record of delivering in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
  • Strong organization and ability to meet tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Own project engineering for a large or complex scope of work across multiple scopes.
  • Develop and maintain requirements consistency across scopes.
  • Create and maintain schedules across scopes.
  • Identify and manage risk across scopes.
  • Coordinate work scope across concurrent scopes.
  • Lead resolution of cross-cutting technical issues.
  • Present technical status to program and functional leadership with minimal oversight.
  • Mentor Level I–III engineers and provide guidance within the program.
  • Contribute engineering assessment to proposals and technical inputs.
  • Serve as CAM equivalent, owning cost, schedule, and EV reporting when applicable.
  • Manage procurement requests within budget across scopes.
  • Recommend supplier acceptance criteria with Supply Chain.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and verify deliverables against requirements.
  • Ensure products meet NASA standards, FAA regulations, and safety requirements.

POSITION SUMMARY

Since Axiom Space is a very complex work environment, we are looking for a resilient, high-energy Project Engineer IV with deep knowledge in life support and/or pressure systems and a background directing complex technical projects from conception to completion. In this role they will be responsible for supporting the design and development of the Environmental Control and Life Support Systems of the first commercial space station. This role is onsite, based at our Spaceport Facility and reports to the Manager, Mechanical Project Engineering.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Own project engineering for a large or technically complex scope of work, or concurrently across two related scopes
  • Develop and maintain requirements consistency across concurrent assigned scopes of work
  • Create and maintain schedules across concurrent assigned scopes of work
  • Identify and manage risk across concurrent assigned scopes of work
  • Assign and coordinate work scope across concurrent assigned scopes of work
  • Lead resolution of cross-cutting technical issues spanning multiple team members' work within assigned scope
  • Represent assigned scope's technical status directly to program and functional leadership with minimal oversight
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Level I–III engineers staffed within the same program
  • Contribute engineering assessment to proposal or new-business technical inputs when requested
  • Serve as CAM equivalent across concurrent assigned scopes, owning cost, schedule, and earned-value reporting for each, when applicable
  • Manage procurement requests within the approved budget across concurrent assigned scopes
  • Recommend supplier technical acceptance criteria, partnering with Supply Chain on sourcing decisions
  • Monitor subcontractor technical performance for complex subsystems within assigned scope, tracking delivery and quality trends and verifying deliverables against contractual technical requirements
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure products meet rigorous NASA standards, FAA regulations, and quality safety requirements

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and 8- 11 years’ experience leading Engineering projects
  • Technical understanding of design, development, and production of Environmental Control and Life Support Systems Spaceflight hardware design background preferred
  • Experience working with NASA requirements and contractual agreements and spaceflight hardware development and certification preferred
  • Experience with MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, etc.)
  • Experience with SOLIDWORKS 3D modeling software or similar computer aided design tool preferred
  • Experience with PDM software such as SolidWorks Product Data Management (PDM) or similar preferred
  • Experience with project management software (Microsoft Project, Primavera P6) Experience with Atlassian suite preferred
  • Track record of making things happen in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
