Axiom Space is seeking a Project Engineer IV for our Houston facility to lead complex Environmental Control and Life Support System initiatives on the first commercial space station. You will coordinate cross-functional teams, manage risks, and ensure conformance to NASA requirements and industry best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 8–11 years leading engineering projects.
  • Experience with Environmental Control and Life Support Systems.
  • Spaceflight hardware design background preferred.
  • Experience with NASA requirements and spaceflight hardware development and certification preferred.
  • Experience with MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, etc.).
  • SOLIDWORKS 3D modeling or similar CAD tool experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Own project engineering for a large or technically complex scope of work across concurrent scopes.
  • Develop and maintain requirements across assigned scopes of work.
  • Create and maintain schedules across scopes and manage risks.
  • Coordinate work scope and mentor Level I–III engineers.
  • Represent technical status to leadership with minimal oversight.
  • Manage procurement within budget for assigned scopes.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and verify deliverables against requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with NASA/FAA standards and quality requirements.

In this role they will be responsible for supporting the design and development of the Environmental Control and Life Support Systems of the first commercial space station. This role is onsite, based at our Spaceport Facility and reports to the Manager, Mechanical Project Engineering. **KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES*** Own project engineering for a large or technically complex scope of work, or concurrently across two related scopes* Develop and maintain requirements consistency across concurrent assigned scopes of work* Create and maintain schedules across concurrent assigned scopes of work* Identify and manage risk across concurrent assigned scopes of work* Assign and coordinate work scope across concurrent assigned scopes of work* Lead resolution of cross-cutting technical issues spanning multiple team members' work within assigned scope* Represent assigned scope's technical status directly to program and functional leadership with minimal oversight* Mentor and provide technical guidance to Level I–III engineers staffed within the same program* Contribute engineering assessment to proposal or new-business technical inputs when requested* Serve as CAM equivalent across concurrent assigned scopes, owning cost, schedule, and earned-value reporting for each, when applicable* Manage procurement requests within the approved budget across concurrent assigned scopes* Recommend supplier technical acceptance criteria, partnering with Supply Chain on sourcing decisions* Monitor subcontractor technical performance for complex subsystems within assigned scope, tracking delivery and quality trends and verifying deliverables against contractual technical requirements* Regulatory Compliance: Ensure products meet rigorous NASA standards, FAA regulations, and quality safety requirements* Perform other duties as assigned **QUALIFICATIONS:**To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
