Job summary

Siemens Mobility is offering a Project Engineer Internship starting May or June 2027 at our Wendell, North Carolina office. You will support standardization, update schematics, and learn protection and control engineering across utility and medium‑voltage projects.

Applicants must be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Electrical Engineering or related field, ready for a 40‑hour workweek during a 12‑week summer period, and able to work on-site near Wendell, NC.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits, power systems and design principles.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work on-site full-time (40 hours/week) for 12-week internship.
  • Located within 50 miles of Wendell, NC; no relocation support.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Enrollment in degree program with continuation after internship.

As an intern with the Electrification and Automation (EA) division of Siemens Smart Infrastructure, you’ll gain hands‑on experience supporting power distribution systems that keep the world running today, while also being exposed to our Future Grids technologies that are shaping the power systems of tomorrow - all within a collaborative, impact‑driven environment.

We are seeking qualified candidates to join our Project Engineer Internship beginning in May or June 2027. This position will be based at our Wendell, North Carolina office location.

You’ll make an impact by:
  • Supporting engineering standardization initiatives for utility and medium‑voltage projects.
  • Updating and creating standard schematic templates and engineering design documentation.
  • Assisting with process improvement projects focused on engineering efficiency, quality, and consistency.
  • Gaining hands‑on experience with utility systems, protection and control engineering, and medium‑voltage engineering concepts.
You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field and approaching completion of the required educational credentials for this opportunity.
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits, power systems, and engineering design principles.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work on‑site full‑time (40 hours per week) for the duration of the 12‑week summer internship.
  • Eligible candidates must be located within 50 miles of Wendell, NC, as this role does not provide relocation support.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.
  • This internship is a structured experiential learning program for individuals currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program who will continue their studies following the assignment. Current and continuing enrollment is a condition of participation. Applicants who have completed or expect to complete their educational program before or during the assignment period are encouraged to explore our Early Career Development Program opportunities.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with electrical schematic design.
  • Experience creating or updating engineering documentation.
  • Interest in utility systems, protection and control engineering, and medium‑voltage applications.

You’ll Benefit From

The hourly pay range for this position is $25.00 per hour for first time Interns or $25.50 per hour for returning Interns. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location. Additionally, interns for Siemens are eligible to contribute into our 401K program.
