• Provide engineering and project coordination across planning, design, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
• Coordinate with PMs, architects, engineers, contractors and stakeholders to move projects forward.
• Review and track drawings, specs, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
• Support sustainability initiatives in energy efficiency, building automation, renewables, electrification, and infrastructure improvements.
• Assist with scoping, feasibility, budgeting, scheduling, and technical evaluations.
• Monitor progress, perform field observations, help resolve technical issues.
• Maintain records, track actions, and support reporting and closeout.

About the Opportunity

JOA is seeking an experienced Project Engineer III – Sustainability to support sustainability-focused capital improvement projects in Los Angeles, CA.

This position offers an opportunity to contribute to projects that improve energy efficiency, modernize building systems, and support long-term sustainability goals across public facilities.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in construction project coordination, technical engineering support, and building systems, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, consultants, and contractors.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide engineering and project coordination support throughout planning, design, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
• Coordinate with project managers, architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to keep projects moving forward.
• Review and track project documentation, including drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
• Support sustainability initiatives involving energy efficiency, building automation, renewable energy, electrification, and infrastructure improvements.
• Assist with project scoping, feasibility assessments, budgeting, scheduling, and technical evaluations.
• Monitor construction progress, conduct field observations, and assist with resolving technical and project-related issues.
• Maintain project records, track action items, and support project reporting and closeout activities.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of experience in project engineering, construction management, or a related role supporting commercial, public-sector, or educational facility projects valued at $15 million or more.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Business, or a related field.
• Experience reviewing construction documents, coordinating technical issues, and supporting project delivery.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with sustainability, energy efficiency, or building modernization projects.
• Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu, BIM, or project management information systems (PMIS).
• Familiarity with Division of the State Architect (DSA) requirements and processes.
• Knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems, building management systems (BMS), and building automation controls.
