Job summary

Daimler Truck in the United States seeks an experienced Powertrain Project Lead to manage prototype powertrain processes and Batch Planning, coordinating timelines for worldwide testing and Detroit Center activities.

You will drive BoM management, SAP/NPP integration, and cross-functional collaboration with engineering, materials, and external partners, ensuring 100% BoM and timely issue resolution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Engineering Technology or relevant engineering degree requirement
  • 5–7 years of relevant experience
  • 2+ years of experience with powertrain BoMs
  • Strong technical knowledge of Daimler Truck products, including axles, diesel engines, and transmissions
  • Strong knowledge of Daimler Truck development process
  • Experience in automotive/heavy duty truck industry or related experience
  • Ability to analytically solve complex problems with minimal guidance and identify solutions
  • Ability to lead department or cross-functional programs of notable risk, resource requirements and/or complexity
  • Ability to serve as a guide for others in area of expertise
  • Ability to advise management and key external stakeholders on broad-ranging projects
  • Experience contributing to standards
  • Proficient in writing technical reports and written procedures
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Self-motivated, driven, analytical, and proactive approach
  • International collaboration experience such as ability to work across borders (exceptional candidate)
  • Mastery in SAP supporting systems unique to Daimler Truck engineering (exceptional candidate)
  • German language fluency (exceptional candidate)
  • Legally authorized to work permanently in the United States; no visa sponsorship or existing visa holders
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check
  • May be required to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen

Responsibilities

  • Manage prototype powertrain processes for engine, aftertreatment, (e)axle, and transmission aggregates for worldwide testing
  • Own prototype powertrain Batch Planning and coordinate prototype timelines (Steckbrief)
  • Define aggregate configurations (GuFL) and load engines into NPP using SAP
  • Coordinate with internal and external customers to integrate requirements into powertrain systems for Detroit and global development programs
  • Document and communicate prototype powertrain planning and progress to local and global executives
  • Own quality and completeness of incoming order information as Assembly Prep interface between component engineering, prototype materials crib, Materials Management, and Assembly
  • Trigger parts reservation/picking and determine parts sent to measurement or Assembly
  • Ensure assembly changes are entered in the 100% BoM
  • Obtain FiNAS parts IDs for the entire 100% BoM and complete final prototype documentation in FiNAS
  • Steer daily prototyping activities at the Detroit Test Center, monitor project-plan progress, resolve operational problems, and minimize delays
  • Create and communicate future powertrain demand plans to steer Detroit Test Center capacity and resource planning
  • Lead cross-functional meetings, fulfill milestones, address program risks, and elevate risks to management and stakeholders
  • Document and resolve prototype powertrain process issues and develop process improvements
  • Develop and implement standard training cadence for the team and stakeholders
  • Implement new powertrain aggregates into the NPP process, including transmissions
  • Manage daily Shop Floor Management meetings for prototype materials
  • Maintain 100% BoM completeness with Component Engineering and Material Management
  • Develop and maintain prototype material forecasts and BoM visualization tools
  • Evaluate build requirements and identify material shortages, timing risks, and recovery plans
  • Communicate parts discrepancies to appropriate departments
  • Manage BoM reviews and lead gap resolution with cross-functional teams
  • Push final as-assembled BoM to FiNAS through SAP tools
