Job summary

Wessler Engineering in Indianapolis seeks an experienced Project Engineer III to lead planning, design, and delivery of drinking water infrastructure projects. You will guide projects from initial scope through design, approvals, bidding, and construction, mentoring engineers and coordinating with municipal clients.

The role requires a PE license in Indiana, 6+ years of civil engineering experience, and strong leadership for client relations and project execution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering from an accredited four-year institution.
  • Minimum 6 years of professional civil engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated drinking water engineering experience, including water treatment, distribution, pumping, storage.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Indiana.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the technical delivery of drinking water planning, design, and infrastructure improvement projects.
  • Perform and oversee engineering studies, designs, plans, specifications, reports, and construction documents.
  • Provide technical leadership on projects involving water treatment facilities, distribution systems, pump stations, storage facilities.
  • Develop project schedules, establish resource requirements, and monitor scope, budgets, schedules, and profitability.
  • Coordinate and provide direction to engineers, project engineers, technicians, drafters, and other project team members.
  • Serve as a key client contact, developing a strong understanding of client needs and providing effective technical solutions.
  • Lead or support client meetings, scope development, design reviews, presentations, bidding, contract awards, and milestones.
  • Coordinate regulatory approvals, permits, agency requirements, and other project deliverables.
  • Review project work for technical adequacy, QA/QC, and compliance.
  • Identify project risks and develop solutions with PMs and teams.
  • Mentor and support less-experienced engineers and staff.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients and contribute to business development and proposals.
  • Keep PMs informed of progress, finances, issues, and opportunities.
  • Represent Wessler Engineering professionally as a trusted technical resource.

About the Role

Wessler Engineering is seeking an experienced Project Engineer III to help lead the planning, design, and delivery of drinking water infrastructure projects that strengthen the communities we serve.

This is an opportunity for a seasoned engineer who is ready to take significant ownership of projects, provide technical leadership to project teams, and build trusted relationships with municipal clients. Working closely with Project Managers and other technical professionals,you’llhelp guide projects frominitialscope through design, approvals, bidding, and construction.

  • Develop andmaintainrelationships with existing and prospective clients and contribute to business development, proposals, and securing new engineering opportunities .
  • Keep Project Managers informed of project progress, financial performance, significant issues, and opportunities.
  • Represent Wessler Engineering professionally and serve as a trusted technical resource to our clients and communities.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering from an accredited four-year institution.
  • Minimum 6 years of professional civil engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with drinking water engineering , including water treatment, distribution, pumping, storage, or related infrastructure.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Indiana.
  • Strong project coordination and technical leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and client expectations.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to independently navigate complex engineering challenges.
  • Proficiencywith Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Valid driver’s license.
