Job summary

Oceaneering is seeking a Project Engineer III to lead a multidisciplinary engineering team in developing advanced subsea robotic capabilities and integrating mission payloads. Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in engineering from an accredited institution.
• 5–10 years of practical technical experience in engineering processes including concept development, analysis, design, drawing, integration and testing.
• 2+ years of experience leading multidisciplinary design teams.
• 2+ years of CAM experience and understanding of Earned Value Management principles.
• Experience with Waterfall, Agile and Scrum project methodologies.
• US Government DOD Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead small to midsize multidisciplinary engineering teams (5–20 members) and drive day-to-day project execution.
• Develop and maintain the technical execution roadmap with system-level milestones.
• Apply Systems Engineering methods including requirements management and design verification.
• Mentor less experienced employees and coordinate cross-team communication.
• Maintain the Integrated Master Schedule and ensure proper sequencing and resource allocation.
• Serve as Control Account Manager for assigned scope and monitor performance, cost, and schedule.
• Analyze user requirements and contribute to high-level system architectures and concepts.
• Identify plans to manage interfaces across mechanical, electrical, software, and payload domains.
• Monitor project metrics and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Support risk tracking and mitigation throughout the lifecycle.
• Review engineering deliverables for alignment with standards and objectives.
• Travel domestically or internationally when required.

Job description

The Project Engineer III leads a multidisciplinary engineering team in developing advanced subsea robotic capabilities, integrating mission‑specific payloads, and designing specialized vehicle subsystems. This role directs the technical effort by creating project plans, overseeing design activities, applying established engineering standards, and leveraging company tools and best practices to deliver high‑quality engineered solutions that meet project objectives.

The Project Engineer III partners closely with the Program Manager to ensure engineering activities are executed within defined cost, schedule, and technical requirements. The role also supports the Project Engineering Manager in advancing broader business, program, and organizational goals.

• Leads small to midsize multidisciplinary engineering teams—typically 5 to 20 members—by driving day‑to‑day project execution, coordinating team activities across the full project life cycle, clarifying task dependencies, and ensuring effective communication.

• Develop and maintain the technical execution roadmap defining system‑level milestones and clear completion criteria.

• Applies Systems Engineering methodologies outlined in the Systems Engineering Master Plan, including requirements management, change management, technical reviews, and design verification activities.

• Builds relationships within and across teams, manages and mentors less experienced employees.

• Contribute to planning and maintaining the Integrated Master Schedule to ensure engineering tasks are properly sequenced and resourced.

• Serve as the Control Account Manager for assigned engineering scope, maintaining performance, cost, and schedule integrity.

• Analyze user requirements and support the development of high‑level system architectures and engineering concepts.

• Identify and develop execution plans to manage functional and system interfaces across mechanical, electrical, software, and mission payload domains.

• Monitor project execution and engineering productivity metrics, identifying issues and implementing corrective actions as needed.

• Support the identification, tracking, and mitigation of technical risks throughout the project lifecycle.

• Review engineering work products, including drawings, technical reports, test plans, test procedures, test reports, and other engineering deliverables, to ensure alignment with company standards, industry best practices, and project objectives.

• Travel, either domestic or international, when required

ESSENTIAL:

• Bachelor of Science degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Ocean, Software, Systems, etc) from an accredited institution.

• 5-10 years of practical technical experience in the engineering process, including concept development, analysis, design, drawing, integration and testing of complex mechanical and/or ocean deployed systems.

• 2+ years of experience leading multidisciplinary design teams.

• 2+ years of CAM experience and an understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM) principles and guidelines to effectively support program planning and performance tracking.

• Experience implementing and maintaining a variety of project management methodologies to include Waterfall, Agile, and Scrum

• Must have a US Government DOD Security Clearance

• Demonstrated ability to:

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders

  • Present information to stakeholders

  • Develop tools for project engineering needs

  • Use standard Microsoft business applications

  • Learn and conform to industry standards (MIL, ABS, etc.)

DESIRED:

• Training in fundamentals of engineering management

• Knowledge and/or experience in subsea engineering

• Knowledge and/or experience in tethered or untethered underwater vehicles

Compensation $109,800.00 - $164,600.00
