Job summary

Kitchell seeks an experienced Project Engineer II to join our Southern California region in Pasadena, building a long-term career at a leading building company. This role involves providing CM services for capital and improvement projects within a K-12 district, working with District facilities, architects, and PMs.

Responsibilities include on-site support, field coordination, documentation, change orders, contract reviews, and risk assessment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
  • 2-5 years in project or construction management.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and take initiative and make sound decisions.
  • DSA project experience preferred.
  • BIM experience preferred.
  • Experience with alternative delivery methods preferred.

Brief Description

Kitchell seeks an experienced and dedicated Project Engineer II to join our Southern California region in Pasadena and build a long-term career at one of the most innovative and growth-oriented building companies in the United States.


Overview

Assist with providing CM services over capital projects and capital improvement projects within a specific school district in the k-12 Market Sector.


Duties And Responsibilities


  • Provides on-site technical and administrative support for construction activities at District facilities

  • Assists Project Managers and Admin Staff with field coordination, documentation, inspections, and tracking of construction progress

  • Supports monitoring of contractor performance, safety compliance, and quality standards

  • Assists with closeout documentation, punch lists, and coordination with school sites and District staff to minimize operational impacts during construction and other duties as necessary

  • Reads and interprets construction plans and shop drawings

  • Assists in preparing written materials including correspondence, reports, procedures, and guidelines

  • Reviews, estimates, negotiates, and processes construction change orders and construction field orders

  • Reviews and enforces construction and professional services contracts

  • Manages and directs contractors and outside consultants including reviewing and approving invoices

  • Assesses project risks and develops risk registers including mitigation strategies

  • Facilitates resolutions of construction and design issues

  • Coordinates with Architects for timely and accurate responses to requests for information, submittals, Construction Change Documents, etc.

  • Generates and distributes meeting minutes (construction meetings, design meetings, etc.)

  • Confirms contractor’s maintenance of record drawings prior to monthly progress payments to the Contractor

  • Maintain project files in both electronic and paper format

  • Reviews submittals for conformance to plans and specifications

  • Prepare project status reports

  • Other job-related duties or projects as assigned


Requirements

Education and Experience


  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree or coursework in Construction Technology, Facilities Management, or related field preferred

  • 2-5 years of recent professional work experience in a similar or equivalent position involved in project or construction management is required

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and take initiative and make sound decisions is required

  • Experience on Division of State Architect (DSA) projects is strongly preferred

  • Experience utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) is preferred

  • Experience with alternative delivery methods is preferred


Knowledge And Skills

Knowledge of all parts of the project life cycle, including master planning, design, and closeout is preferred


License and Certifications


  • A valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record, free from suspensions or restrictions is required

  • OSHA 30 certified preferred

  • ICC Inspector Certifications are preferred


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly work in an office and/or construction environment. Conditions regularly include exposure to outdoor elements, hot/cold temperatures, wet conditions, noise, atmospheric conditions, and cramped quarters. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.


Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly sit, stand, walk, talk, or hear and use hands to finger, feel and handle; frequently reach with hands and arms; occasionally climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must frequently lift and or move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds.


Travel Requirements

Work with be executed at campus location across Pasadena, CA as well as the district office in Altadena, CA.

The annual base salary range for this role is currently $91,000 - $99,500. The Company’s salary ranges are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of various factors, including job-related skills, relevant education and experience, abilities of the applicant and equity with other team members. The annual base salary range listed here is subject to change at any time, in the Company’s discretion, and does not alter in any way the at-will nature of the employment relationship.
