Austin Commercial is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Houston, TX team. We are an employee-owned firm, committed to safety, service and integrity. The role supports submittals, RFIs, and cost estimating while coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers to meet project schedules.

Ideal candidates have a B.S. in construction management/science or engineering, internship experience, and OSHA 30 training (or the ability to obtain within the first year).

• B.S. in construction management/science, engineering required or equivalent
• Internship experience with a construction company strongly preferred
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training required (may obtain within first year)
• Entry level position

Responsabilités

• Notifies subcontractors of commencement dates; solicits delivery schedules from suppliers and expedites deliveries to avoid delays
• Prepares quantity take-offs for proposed changes
• Oversees submittal schedule; checks accuracy and transmittals; expedites delivery of submittals to avoid schedule delays
• Prepares reports: material logs, submittal logs, RFI logs, drawing logs, long-lead items log
• Verifies monthly subcontractor payment requests
• Locates suppliers for building materials; reviews invoices for quantity, quality, prices
• Responds to RFIs from owners and subcontractors; routes information to field superintendent and subcontractors
• Assists in compiling close-out documents (as-built drawings, warranties, manuals)
• When not on project, may assist Estimating with detailed cost estimates and value engineering
• Participates in jobsite safety per Safety & Health Manual
• Other duties as assigned

Responsibilities

• Notifies subcontractors of commencement dates; solicits delivery schedules from suppliers and expedites deliveries to avoid costly construction delays
• Participates in the proposed changes process by preparing quantity take-offs
• Assists in preparation of the submittal schedule as required to meet construction schedule and coordinates submissions with subcontractors; assumes overall responsibility for submittals, including checking for accuracy, transmittals to and from subcontractors, architects, and superintendents, and maintains logs; expedites delivery of submittals when necessary to avoid delays in construction; keeps project manager abreast of submissions that will impact schedule
• Prepares and/or oversees preparation of a number of reports dealing with the project such as material logs, submittal logs, RFI logs, drawing logs and long- lead items log as required by owners and/or company operating procedures
• Assists in the verification of monthly subcontractor payment requests
• May assume a role in locating suppliers for various building materials; reviews invoices upon request to verify quantity, quality and prices for construction materials
• Responds to requests for information (RFIs) from owners and subcontractors, preparing RFIs for the project architect and/or structural engineer of record when necessary to clarify technical issues concerning the project; ensures that information received in response to RFIs is routed to the applicable field superintendent and subcontractors
• Assists in compiling close-out documents including as-built drawings, guarantees, warranties, service manuals and other related documents for delivery to the owner; may prepare Austin’s warranty for inclusion in this package and assist in preparing other close-out documents as assigned
• When not assigned to a project, the PE II generally is assigned to the Estimating Department, preparing detailed cost estimates; may assist with value engineering activities and the pricing of those alternate procedures; interacts with a wide variety of construction professionals, including owner representatives, architects, structural engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, etc.
• Participates in jobsite safety as outlined in company’s Safety & Health Manual
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• B.S. in construction management/science, engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Internship experience with a construction company strongly preferred
• Successful completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training required (may obtain within first year of employment)
• Entry level position
