Job summary

SGS is seeking a Project Engineer - General Safety to lead engineering tasks for certifying client products to safety standards. You will act as the technical lead, coordinating with the Project Manager and clients to ensure timely delivery.

The role requires evaluating standards, drafting TRFs/CDFs, and developing safety test plans across electrical, dielectric, and mechanical tests, with travel up to 15%. A strong background in electrical/mechanical engineering and lab testing is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2-5 years experience in product safety testing or compliance engineering.
• Familiarity with standards such as UL 62368-1, UL 60730-1, IEC 61010-1, UL 508, UL 972, UL 1081, UL 1559; IEC 60601-1 is a plus.
• Understanding of NRTL certification processes, CB Scheme documentation conventions, and CE marking concepts.
• Experience with standard lab instrumentation and willingness to travel up to 10-15%.

Responsibilities

• Technical owner of multiple projects - collaborate with PM to meet deadlines.
• Technical representative between client and SGS - provide updates and conduct meetings.
• Review construction against standards; author TRFs and CDF documentation.
• Author compliance letters and technical justifications for certification decisions.
• Develop test plans for construction, electrical, and mechanical safety testing.
• Lab reviewer; guide lab technicians on setting up and executing tests.
• Support RFQ scoping and certification proposals with applicable standards and timelines.
• Conduct factory/field follow-up inspections for ongoing surveillance.
