Job summary

Black & Decker (U.S.) Inc. in Towson, MD seeks a Project Engineer, Electro‑mechanical for a hybrid role. You will design Li‑Ion battery packs, develop packaging for BMS, and create BOMs from prototype to mass production in the PLM system.

The role requires 5–7+ years in Li‑Ion battery development, strong 3D modeling skills (CATIA V5 preferred), and experience with manufacturing for electronics, soldering and laser welding. Travel will be domestic and international.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering required; MS preferred.
  • Experience in Li‑Ion battery packs and BMS development.
  • Hands-on testing, data analysis, and design recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Design Li‑Ion battery packs and electronic packaging.

  • Collaborate with product teams on power tool system integration.
  • Perform structural analysis (FEM) and thermal management for high‑power assemblies.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and design teams.

Project Engineer, Electro‑mechanical – Hybrid 3 Days in Towson, Hybrid to Towson Towson, Maryland, United States

The Job:
  • Design Li‑Ion battery packs, including electronic packaging for battery management systems.
  • Create 3D models, release 2D detailed drawings, and create and manage bills of material from prototype through mass production in the PLM system.
  • Work with product teams on power tool system integration, including chargers and tools.
  • Perform structural analysis using finite element analysis packages.
  • Perform thermal analysis and thermal management for high‑power electronic assemblies and power packs.
  • Work with the model shop and suppliers to obtain prototypes and attend product builds at contract manufacturers.
  • Partner with Industrial Design, Marketing, Manufacturing, Compliance, Safety, and Purchasing teams to understand design considerations and product CTQs.
  • Perform tolerance stack‑ups, DFMEAs, PFMEAs, process control plans, and release engineering changes.
  • Design test plans and analyze results from advanced testing.
  • Support supplier development for key components and work with contract manufacturers to meet program targets.
The Person:
  • A B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent discipline, with an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • 5–7+ years of experience in product development of Li‑Ion battery packs and battery management systems.
  • Working knowledge of 3D modeling software, with CATIAV5 preferred.
  • Familiarity with printed circuit board design.
  • Hands‑on experience conducting tests, analyzing test data, and making recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes for electronic products, including soldering and laser welding.
  • Demonstrated ability to design plastic and metallic components and work with a variety of materials.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet schedule and cost commitments.
  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively with customers and suppliers.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack‑ups, and failure analysis.
  • A strong commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
  • The ability to travel domestically and internationally.
The Details:

The Salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $144,900.00 This is the lowest to highest annual full‑time salary range we would pay for this role at the time of this posting.

The salary offered within the range may vary depending on multiple factors including job level, geographic location, job‑related knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience and in compliance with local wage requirements.

Please note that salary is only one component of total rewards at Stanley Black & Decker.
