Job Description
Position Purpose: The Project Engineer performs commissioning of electrical systems. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, energetic, with a solid understanding of building electrical systems design and construction. Experience with commissioning processes for electrical systems of varying size, rating, and complexity is essential. The candidate should possess both theoretical and practical knowledge in testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning electrical systems and controls. Responsibilities include reviewing project information, executing field activities, maintaining documentation, assisting senior engineers, and guiding junior staff. Strong technical, organizational, and teamwork skills are required.

Primary Duties / Responsibilities

  • Commission electrical distribution equipment and controls, mainly in data centers, including medium voltage systems.
  • Review system designs for compliance with client goals.
  • Assist in preparing commissioning plans and procedures.
  • Conduct commissioning activities from design to occupancy, following industry best practices.
  • Attend factory testing and document procedures and results.
  • Perform functional testing with instrumentation and record results.
  • Document all procedures, issues, and observations accurately.
  • Report system performance and provide technical recommendations.
  • Coordinate with project teams for field activities.
  • Review and contribute to project documentation and schedules.
  • Maintain daily commissioning reports.
  • Assist in training junior engineers.
  • Respond professionally to inquiries from clients and team members.
  • Ensure safety compliance at all times.
  • Knowledge of building equipment such as generators, transformers, UPS, switchgear, MSB, PLC, EPMS, ATS, STS, PDU, busways, RPP.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

  • Walk up to 5 miles daily.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Wear PPE as required.
  • Travel nationwide 50-75%, with potential for higher travel periods.

Qualifications

  • BSc/MSc in Electrical Engineering + 2+ years’ experience in mission-critical projects, or
  • 4+ years’ relevant industry experience.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Experience in mission-critical commissioning.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, proactive problem solver.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently.
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE, BCxA, NETA standards, and BMS/EPMS systems preferred.
  • Understanding of test instrumentation.
  • Team-oriented with a client-first approach.

Certifications

  • PE license or commissioning certification is a plus, not mandatory.
