The candidate will coordinate design activities and oversee certification efforts for several electrical and avionics programs while supporting the efforts of other project engineers and cross-functional teams. This role blends technical engineering leadership, project oversight, and regulatory compliance responsibilities, and is ideally suited for an electrical / avionics engineer who has contributed directly to FAA Part 23 or Part 25 programs and understands the full life cycle of project planning, system development, integration, and certification.

You will act as a project engineer for electrical and avionics systems development interfacing with vendors and guiding independent electrical and mechanical design teams to ensure the final design is safe, certifiable, and optimized for performance and manufacturability.

Responsibilities
  • Electrical / Avionics Expertise: Serve as an in-house Subject Matter Expert (SME) for aircraft electrical and avionics systems, providing guidance on design, integration, operational, and certification aspects.
  • Project Management: Lead project engineering efforts across multiple programs, as assigned, while providing support to other engineers and cross-functional teams.
  • Develop, maintain, and track project schedules, deliverables, and milestones.
  • Act as primary liaison between internal engineering teams, suppliers, DERs, and certification authorities, coordinating proposed solutions with the FAA as needed.
  • Facilitate cross-functional integration to resolve interface and design issues.
  • Certification Planning, Documentation, Coordination, and Oversite: Oversee certification efforts for assigned projects.
  • Apply 14 CFR Part 23 regulations and associated guidance material to design activities and certification efforts.
  • Define and document system certification basis and compliance plans, including Project PSCP(s).
  • Prepare, review, approve, and release certification documentation including requirements, specifications, ICDs, verification plans, test plans (ground, flight, lab), test results, and other certification documents and compliance artifacts.
  • Regulatory and Design Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and alignment with aircraft-level operational and safety objectives, while coordinating activities with design teams.
  • Ensure alignment with continued airworthiness requirements.
  • Safety and Risk Management: Support creation, review, approval, and release of aircraft, system, and component safety assessments (FHA, PSSA, FTA, FMEA, CCA, etc).
  • Identify certification and technical risks early and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Problem Solving: Analyze and resolve design issues, offering innovative, practical, and certifiable solutions to engineering challenges.
  • Product Lifecycle and Tools: Manage product data, track design changes, and ensure documentation is current and accessible using Teamcenter, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Utilize MBSE tools and methodologies, including Siemens Polarion, ANSYS Medini, and ANSYS SCADE.
  • Leadership and Mentoring: Mentor engineers on design, FAA certification processes, technical standards, and documentation best practices.
  • Promote collaboration and knowledge-sharing across multidisciplinary teams.
