Job summary

ADM's East Plant in Decatur, IL seeks a Project Engineer to oversee design and execution of capital projects, manage AFE lifecycle, and coordinate with improvement and process technology teams. The role focuses on detailed design, approval, and construction, with emphasis on FEL principles and industry best practices.

Responsibilities include stewarding capital projects from inception to commissioning, preparing AFEs, managing budgets and schedules, and guiding field personnel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of project/process engineering experience; PSM experience a plus.
  • Ability to apply engineering competencies to practical real-world situations.
  • Experience designing processing systems and equipment for production of food-grade products.
  • Knowledge of codes, standards, materials/metallurgy related to processing equipment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with PI, Maximo, MS Office (Project/Excel/Word/SharePoint), and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with improvement engineers to steward viable capital projects from inception to commissioning.
  • Effectively manage personnel and resources to balance schedules, budgets, and scope/quality.
  • Prepare AFEs and lifecycle management from creation through capitalization.

Job Responsibilities
  • Partner with improvement engineers, ensure stewardship of viable capital projects from inception to commissioning
  • Effective management of personnel and resources to balance schedules, budgets, and scope/quality of projects
  • Preparation of AFEs and lifecycle management – creation though capitalization.
  • Provide oversight of equipment and contractor personnel during the course of projects by working in the field on a daily basis
  • Provide updates (written and verbal) on project activities and key metrics to managers and other stakeholders
  • Develop requests for proposals, equipment sizing, equipment utility lists, detail P&ID’s, and other front end engineering tasks
  • Proactively participate in safety, environmental, quality, and production processes in order to ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures
  • Assist in developing operating procedures and training production personnel on unit operations for start-up
  • Maintain an awareness of industry trends and investigate the means by which projects can be improved, implemented, and managed - this includes capturing lessons learned and developing best practices ensuring compliance with all relevant engineering standards and internal procedures
  • Develop colleagues through training, technical support, and mentoring opportunities.
Job Requirements:
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years of project/process engineering experience, PSM experience a plus
  • Must be able to apply engineering competencies to practical real world situations
  • Colleague will design processing systems and equipment required for the production of food grade products
  • General knowledge of codes, relevant standards, and materials/metallurgy related to processing equipment
  • Knowledge of industrial chemical and food production plant processes and related systems such as: pressure vessels, reactors, distillation, spray drying, piping, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls, dry powder technologies, utilities, packaging, and other unit operations is desired
  • Strong leadership, management, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential. Interpersonal skills include handling conflict, motivating personnel, as well as instructing/training/mentoring less experienced engineers.
  • Must be able to effectively interact with employees and managers at multiple levels and locations.
  • An ability to utilize independent judgement to solve problems and have excellent organizational skills to drive continuous improvements, and handle multiple ongoing tasks and projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage personnel, budgets, schedules, and other resources.
  • Excellent communication skills- both verbal and detailed written, are required.
  • General knowledge of software systems such as PI, Maximo, Microsoft Office applications (Project, Excel, Word, and SharePoint), and AutoCAD.
Physical Demands:
  • This role works in a plant environment and will be expected to initiate work based on general instructions from management.
  • The physical requirements of the job requires ability to climb stairs, lift 50 pounds, prolonged periods of standing and sitting, computer work, working in confined spaces and from heights, bending, kneeling, working adjusted hours, and wearing a respirator when required and as instructed.
  • Prompt and consistent attendance is required.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

The pay range for this position is expected to be between:

$76,100.00 - $142,700.00

Salaried Incentive Plan

The total compensation package for this position will also include annual bonus
