Cherokee Millwright, Inc. in Cleveland, TN is seeking a Project Engineer in the Operations department who reports to the Project Manager.

This NON-EXEMPT role supports project execution, documentation, and coordination with foreman, general contractor, architect/engineer, and subcontractors. You will prepare computer-generated spreadsheets and reports, perform material take-offs, maintain project documents, and assist with estimates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field, or 2 years’ prior experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, stay organized, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in utilizing a wide range of computer software.
  • Engineer-in-training certification, Journeyman license, and field experience preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional, first-class customer service.
  • Assist with the execution and management of project needs.
  • Prepare and present computer-generated spreadsheets and reports.
  • Maintain regular communication and collaboration with project team members (Foreman, Project Manager, General Contractor, Architect/Engineer, subcontractors).
  • Generate, maintain, and facilitate project documentation across all phases (RFIs, submittals, drawings, specs, purchase orders, material orders, change orders, close-out documents).
  • Perform material take-offs from drawings to help generate estimates and changes.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, efficiency, and integrity in all aspects of the work.
  • May commute to various jobsite locations; adapt to different environments.
  • Attend and conduct meetings as required.
  • Comply with company policies, procedures, and safety programs.
  • Other duties as needed for specific projects.
  • Support the Project Superintendent and Project Manager with day-to-day field operations (material expediting, time keeping, RFIs, submittals, design team coordination, site walks, reporting).
  • Note: this position does not do design work.

Job Summary

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain regular communication and collaboration with entire project team, including Project Foreman, Project Manager, General Contractor, Architect/Engineer, and other subcontractors.
  • Generate, maintain, and facilitate project documentation in the execution of the construction processes for all phases of the project. This will include, but is not limited to, requests for information, submittals, drawings, specifications, purchase orders, material orders, change orders, close-out documents, etc.
  • Perform material take offs from drawings to help generate estimates and changes.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, efficiency, and integrity in all aspects of the work.
  • Maintain flexibility with assigned work environment and assigned project locations. May be required to commute to various jobsite locations.
  • Attend and conduct meetings as required.
  • Comply with all company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs as established.
  • Other duties may be assigned as specific projects dictate.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supporting the Project Superintendent and Project Manager with day to day field operations such as material expediting, time keeping, RFIs, submittals, design team coordination, walking down the installed scope of work to confirm quantity’s installed that will feed into the schedule and other reporting functions.

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or related field; OR 2 years’ prior experience in related field via internships, co-ops, and/or industry employment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task, stay organized, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in utilizing a wide range of computer software.
  • Engineer-in-training certification, Journeyman license, and field experience preferred, but not required.
Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
