Project Engineer - Civil Division (NE Ohio and Columbus)

The Ruhlin Company is looking for Project Engineer - Civil Division (NE Ohio and Columbus) in Sharon Center, OH.

The Ruhlin Company is seeking to hire Project Engineers for its Civil Division. Openings are available in Northeast Ohio and Columbus.

Position Summary: Manage all financial administration and cost reporting activities; assist the Superintendent in managing all construction processes.

Expected Outcomes:

  1. Accurate cost reports and project status reports margin analysis are produced on-time.
  2. Prompt and accurate payment applications to the owner.
  3. Timely and complete project documentation.
  4. Project is being constructed per the contract documents.

Position Responsibilities:

Safety: Assist with weekly toolbox talks, safety inspections, and incident and/or accident investigations and follow up.

Contractual:

  1. Maintain submittal/RFI logs, timely receipt and review of submittals and shop drawings.
  2. Develop, implement, and administer project engineering procedures.
  3. Create correspondence to owners, contractors, subcontractors, engineers, architects, and others.
  4. Recognize change conditions with respect to the contract and notify appropriate parties.
  5. Monitor DBE payment and compliance status.
  6. Assist Superintendent with daily job reports and schedule monitoring.
  7. Take weekly jobsite photographs.
  8. Assist with project close-out activities.

Engineering:

  1. Interpret designs and drawings; prepare takeoffs; identify conflicts and errors.
  2. Prepare drawings and sketches to support construction work, change orders, and estimates.
  3. Verify work-in-place quantities for invoicing/pay quantities; verify accurate payment to subcontractors and material suppliers.
  4. Assist in the definition of subcontract bid packages, coordinating scopes of work, and in preparing the packages.
  5. Maintain as-built drawings.
  6. Ensure all completed work complies with applicable codes, drawings, and specifications, coordinate inspections and testing.

Accounting:

  1. Assemble construction financial data; monitor costs; track costs for force accounts.
  2. Maintain job costing system and update systems to reflect forecasts.
  3. Generate and distribute weekly manhour reports and at a minimum, monthly pay applications.
  4. Assist with the preparation of project status reports and participate in project status meetings; assist in the development of meeting minutes.

Administrative:

  1. Monitor that the Field Project Coordinator is ensuring the craft timecards are completed accurately, correctly reflecting hours worked and tasks; assign cost codes to all purchases, timecards, contracts, equipment time and any other item involving cost.
  2. Ensure correct setup and maintenance of filing system.
  3. Process field new hires not completed by the corporate office.

General:

  1. Maintain all safety records.
  2. Communicate and reinforce the Company vision, values, and goals.
  3. Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business administration, or related field.
  2. Ability to read and interpret plans.
  3. Excellent computer skills.
  4. Basic understanding of cost analysis.
  5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  6. Strong team player.
  7. Professional registration is encouraged.
  8. Commitment to Company values.

Reporting to this position: Field Administrative Assistant, Interns/Co-ops.
