Job summary

The Project Engineer at MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME ACADEMY applies engineering methods to capital and process improvement projects, using CAD for basic design and drawing modifications. The role ensures project spending stays within authorized limits and supports reliability of new production equipment.

You will work with production, technical management, and facilities teams, manage capital estimates, track budgets, and interface with contractors to optimize costs and terms while maintaining safety

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering preferred; Chemical or Electrical engineers considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years engineering experience in manufacturing environments; paper industry experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of pumps, piping, valves and systems typical of paper mills.
  • Proficient with CAD, MS Project, Outlook, Word and Excel; Maximo experience a plus.
  • Strong writing and communication skills; ability to negotiate project purchases.

Responsibilities

  • Develop scopes of work and cost estimates for capital and major maintenance projects.
  • Use Maximo to set up projects, obtain authorization and track to completion.
  • Administer project details and ensure spending is within authorized amounts.
  • Track actual spending vs. budget and publish reports.
  • Design equipment modifications using CAD and modify existing drawings.
  • Implement process and equipment improvements to reduce cost and improve reliability.
  • Interface with production, technical manager, and facility teams as needed.
  • Negotiate with contractors to optimize spending and terms.
