Project Engineer – Battery Energy Storage (Massachusetts)

My client, a market leader in the deployment of advanced Battery Energy Storage Systems, is seeking a Project Engineer to support project delivery in Massachusetts and the broader New England region. This role requires an electrical engineering degree and hands-on experience in the design and execution of utility-scale energy storage projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technical aspects of BESS projects from design through commissioning.
• Prepare, review, and approve electrical design documents and equipment specifications.
• Interface with ISO-NE and local utilities to meet interconnection requirements.
• Coordinate with development, procurement, and construction teams to ensure seamless project execution.
• Attend site visits for feasibility, constructability, and quality checks.
• Respond to technical RFIs, review submittals, and manage design changes during construction.
• Ensure compliance with Massachusetts codes, regulations, and safety standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
• At least 3 years’ experience in BESS or renewable energy project engineering.
• Familiarity with ISO-NE processes, high-voltage equipment, and grid integration.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to travel to project sites within Massachusetts and the surrounding region.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) licence in Massachusetts.
• Experience with New England-specific permitting and utility interconnection processes.
