Job summary

gpac LLC. is seeking a Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager for a major heavy highway project in Roanoke, VA. You will support a multi-year interstate widening, collaborating with field teams and DOT inspectors to maintain budgets, schedules and safety.

The role offers growth toward a Project Manager position, with responsibilities including handling submittals, RFIs, pay estimates and document control. A civil engineering degree and DOT knowledge are preferred; EIT/PE is a plus.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Project Engineer/APM on heavy highway or DOT projects.
• Knowledge of DOT specifications and documentation.
• EIT or PE is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support the project manager on budgets, schedules, cost tracking and change orders
• Manage submittals, RFIs and project documentation
• Track quantities, production and monthly pay estimates
• Coordinate with field crews, subcontractors, suppliers and DOT inspectors
• Review plans and specifications and help resolve field issues
• Help keep the project safe, on schedule and on budget

Qualifications

• Experience as a Project Engineer, Field Engineer or APM on heavy highway, bridge, DOT or roadway projects
• Working knowledge of DOT specifications and documentation
• Strong organization and communication skills
• Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field preferred
• EIT or PE a plus
