Job description

We are seeking a hands-on Aerospace Project Engineer with PMA experience to take technical ownership of aviation component development from initial investigation through certification and production readiness. This role is designed for an engineer who leads the technical work - solving complex design and substantiation problems, making sound engineering decisions, and driving deliverables to completion - rather than serving primarily as a project coordinator.

About the Role

As a Project Engineer, you will own the technical execution of FAA-PMA projects, including reverse engineering, design definition, substantiation, certification documentation, and production transition. You will establish the engineering approach, perform and review critical technical work, resolve design and manufacturing issues, and remain accountable for the quality and completeness of the technical package. Cross-functional coordination is part of the role, but success is measured by your engineering judgment, technical rigor, and ability to deliver certifiable, producible solutions.

What You'll Do
  • Own the development and technical integrity of design and substantiation packages for FAA-PMA applications.
  • Lead hands-on reverse engineering and troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical aircraft components, translating findings into defensible design requirements.
  • Use automatic and manual measuring techniques to capture and document dimensional data.
  • Establish measurement tolerances using accepted industry practices and review of next higher assembly fit.
  • Create and own detailed designs using CAD, materials science, metrology, GD&T, and related engineering inputs; independently evaluate tradeoffs and document design decisions.
  • Author and technically defend regulatory certification deliverables, including certification plans, test plans, substantiation reports, and supporting transmittals.
  • Research technical requirements and collaborate with subject matter experts to evaluate, select, and adapt procedures for design changes and problem resolution.
  • Review aircraft instructions and other aviation technical information for continued airworthiness to define and adapt project requirements.
  • Support supply chain development of manufacturing methods and processes, including vendor identification and selection, purchasing requirements, and drawing interpretation.
  • Provide engineering support for quality-related questions involving drawing interpretation, manufacturing inspection methods, and customer feedback.
  • Provide technical leadership for First Article and project conformity inspections, resolving engineering issues across Supply Chain, Quality, FAA representatives, and management.
  • Participate in root cause corrective action and preventive action initiatives.
  • Prepare technical packages according to customer or operator requirements.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting the realization of engineered products, including drawing creation, supplier selection, and quality activities related to product conformity.
  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while applying strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong technical capability, including technical writing, CAD programming, GD&T, and ASME Y14 drawing methodologies .
  • Working knowledge of quality inspection methods, including automatic and manual measuring equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic manufacturing methods such as milling, turning, grinding, and brazing.
  • Ability to understand FAA certification requirements and other civil aviation authority requirements.
