Project Engineer
Core Competencies: Schedule and project controls management of utility-scale solar and battery storage projects. This is a site-based role, often in remote locations with extreme weather conditions, requiring living away from home.
- Monitor all aspects of construction work and support the Company and Consultant’s project management and site staff.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports; oversee QA/QC; participate in daily Plan-Of-Day meetings, weekly customer meetings, and coordinate with the Consultant’s Site Manager and other management staff.
- Coordinate closely with the Project Manager to communicate field progress.
- Lead by example to prioritize safety, ensuring all employees follow safe practices and reinforcing safe behaviors.
- Ensure Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) is completed before starting work.
- Adhere to and ensure understanding of standard operating procedures among site team members.
- Support the site team in technical, quality, and safety aspects, utilizing established systems.
- Manage project delivery to meet management expectations.
- Assist in preparing the project budget and schedule before project start.
- Maintain and update the project schedule weekly.
- Guide and coach field engineers to meet project budget, schedule, and quality goals.
- Coordinate all work disciplines for efficient and safe construction performance.
- Understand contractual obligations and document variances accordingly.
- Manage schedules for engineering, subcontractors, and vendors to align with the project schedule.
- Work with the Project Manager to establish and update the baseline project schedule.
- Follow site communication and process protocols.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Perform audits to ensure compliance.
- Communicate variances and potential issues to the Project Manager.
- Manage RFIs, technical inquiries, and transmittals.
- Ensure construction documents are current and properly transmitted and maintained, including redline and final record drawings.
- Provide feedback for process improvement.
- Liaise with management, engineering, subcontractors, and vendors under the direction of the Project Manager.
- Conduct on-site audits, safety inspections, and supervisory activities.
- Support permitting activities prior to project start.
- Review contractor quality and closeout documents, including manuals, as-builts, and test reports.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including contracts, amendments, change orders, drawings, and closeout packages.
- Record meeting minutes, track action items, and follow up accordingly.
- Knowledge Areas: Interpersonal skills, quality assurance, reading prints and takeoffs, computer software proficiency (Microsoft Office and proprietary systems), engineering management.
- Intermediate Knowledge: Construction safety and OSHA requirements, construction processes, leadership, scope interpretation, fast-paced environment adaptation, project scheduling, planning, presentation skills.
- Basic Knowledge: Project finance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or at least three years of relevant experience in the power industry, involved in EPC or IPP construction activities.
- Experience in Renewable Energy sector and project management is essential.
