Job summary

Balicore Construction is seeking a motivated Project Engineer to support the planning, coordination, and execution of commercial construction projects. The role involves working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, design professionals, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and in accordance with contract documents.

  • 1–3 years of commercial construction internship/experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Manager and Superintendent with day-to-day project coordination.
  • Review plans, specs, contracts to understand project requirements.
  • Coordinate information among field operations, subcontractors, vendors, architects, and engineers.
  • Assist with startup, mobilization, construction, closeout, turnover activities.
  • Maintain submittal logs and distribute submittals/shop drawings.
  • Prepare and track RFIs and ensure responses to the project team.

Position Summary

Balicore Construction is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Engineer to support the successful planning, coordination, and execution of commercial construction projects. The Project Engineer works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, design professionals, and other project stakeholders to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with contract documents.

This position is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to develop their construction management experience while gaining hands‑on exposure to all phases of commercial construction.

Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination
  • Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent with day-to-day management and coordination of assigned construction projects.
  • Review project plans, specifications, contracts, and other construction documents to develop a thorough understanding of project requirements.
  • Coordinate information between field operations, subcontractors, vendors, architects, engineers, and project management.
  • Assist with project startup, mobilization, construction, closeout, and turnover activities.
  • Participate in project meetings and assist with documenting action items and follow‑up responsibilities.
  • Help identify potential project issues and communicate concerns to the Project Manager and Superintendent in a timely manner.
  • Manage and maintain project submittal logs.
  • Prepare, submit, track, and distribute submittals and shop drawings.
  • Prepare and track Requests for Information (RFIs) and ensure responses are communicated to the appropriate project team members.
  • Review subcontractor submittals for completeness and general compliance with project requirements before forwarding for approval.
  • Maintain current project drawings, specifications, and other construction documents.
  • Assist with subcontractor and vendor communication and coordination.
  • Track subcontractor documentation and required project deliverables.
  • Assist with procurement activities and monitor long‑lead materials and equipment.
  • Follow up with subcontractors and vendors regarding schedules, submittals, deliveries, and outstanding project requirements.
  • Support the Project Manager with subcontractor scope review and coordination.
Scheduling & Field Support
  • Work closely with the Superintendent to understand project schedules, sequencing, and field operations.
  • Assist with short‑term scheduling and tracking project milestones.
  • Monitor material and equipment delivery dates and communicate potential schedule impacts.
  • Conduct regular site visits to observe progress and gain an understanding of field conditions.
  • Assist with resolving discrepancies between drawings, specifications, and actual field conditions.
  • Help ensure field teams are working from the most current drawings and project information.
Cost & Change Management
  • Assist the Project Manager with tracking project costs, commitments, and budget information.
  • Support the preparation and tracking of change orders, potential change orders, and subcontractor change requests.
  • Assist with obtaining subcontractor and vendor pricing for changes in scope.
  • Review invoices, purchase orders, and other project‑related documentation as assigned.
Quality & Safety
  • Support Balicore Construction's commitment to maintaining a safe and professional jobsite.
  • Assist with quality control efforts and documentation.
  • Participate in project inspections, punch walks, and quality reviews.
  • Help identify incomplete or non‑conforming work and communicate concerns to project leadership.
  • Maintain awareness of company safety policies and project‑specific safety requirements.
Project Closeout
  • Assist with punch list development, tracking, and completion.
  • Coordinate collection of warranties, operation and maintenance manuals, as‑built drawings, and other closeout documentation.
  • Assist with final inspections and turnover requirements.
  • Ensure project records are organized and complete for final closeout.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Building Construction, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous construction internship or 1–3 years of commercial construction experience preferred.
  • Entry‑level candidates with relevant construction education and internship experience are encouraged to apply.
  • General understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and construction processes.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with field and office personnel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Experience with Procore or similar construction management software is preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to local project sites as needed.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to work in both an office and active construction jobsite environment.
  • Ability to walk jobsites, including uneven terrain and areas under active construction.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders as necessary.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials or equipment weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to work around construction equipment, noise, dust, and varying weather conditions during site visits.

The Project Engineer position is designed to provide exposure to the full project lifecycle and build the technical, operational, and leadership skills necessary for continued growth within Balicore Construction. Successful Project Engineers may have opportunities to progress into roles such as Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager, Senior Project Manager, or other construction leadership positions.
