Job summary

Garver is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Transportation Team in San Antonio, TX to lead roadway design for state and local DOT projects. You will coordinate design with disciplines and subconsultants and communicate with the PM on deliverables, schedules, and budgets.

The role includes preparing design schematics with environmental leads under NEPA, and creating plans, specs, estimates, and reports. You will mentor junior engineers and act as QA/QC SME while supporting marketing efforts.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology.
  • Texas PE license or ability to obtain via reciprocity.
  • 5–10 years of transportation design experience with knowledge of AASHTO Green Book, MUTCD, TxDOT standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of TxDOT PDP and coordination with design teams.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.

Job description

Garver is seeking a Project Engineer to join our growing Transportation Team in San Antonio, TX to continue the tradition of providing quality service to our clients.

Responsibilities in this position will include:
  • Leading the engineering design of roadway projects for state and local DOTs.
  • Coordinating design with other disciplines and subconsultants.
  • Communicating with the project manager on deliverables, schedules, and budgets.
  • Preparing design schematics in collaboration with environmental task leaders and other team members, consistent with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
  • Preparing plans, specifications, cost estimates, reports, and calculations necessary for a complete deliverable package to the client.
  • Interacting with the client, including preparing communications and other documentation.
  • Mentoring and training younger engineers on roadway design.
  • Serving as a Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Subject Matter Expert (SME) for reviewing deliverables.
  • Assisting the Business Team Leader and Project Manager with marketing efforts, including proposal writing, client interaction, and public engagements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas or ability to obtain license through reciprocity.
  • Professional interpersonal and leadership skills, including a willingness to learn and be coached by a mentor.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable in the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Project Development Process (PDP)
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of relevant transportation design experience that includes technical knowledge of roadway design with sufficient knowledge of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Green Book, the AASHTO Roadside Design Guide, the Manual Uniform Traffic Control Device (MUTCD), TxDOT Roadway Design Manual, TxDOT Standards, Details, and Specifications, and the Department of Justice ADA Standards for Accessible Design (ADAAG/PROWAG) Guidelines.
  • Ability to lead a design team to meet a deliverable schedule within a defined budget.
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) proficiency.
Preferred Skills
  • Previous experience as a consultant working with TxDOT and county/municipal clients on transportation projects.
  • Bentley OpenRoads Designer proficiency.
  • Experience in preparing fee proposal hour estimates.
