Project Engineer - Federal Engineering Team (Hybrid/Remote, Salt Lake City, UT)

Ameresco invites applications for a Project Engineer to support multimillion‑dollar energy efficiency, HVAC and distributed energy projects for federal clients.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate site visits to gather energy performance data for existing mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and control systems.
  • Present progress reports, identify problems and propose solutions.
  • Implement and manage project changes and interventions to achieve deliverables.
  • Evaluate project outcomes and assess results.
  • Engage with clients during status meetings; maintain minutes and agendas.
  • Support construction activities from a project engineering perspective—including preparation of conceptual and detailed designs, bid documents, IFC documents, RFI/submittal process, and securing Notices to Proceed.
  • Collaborate with engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil, commissioning, M&V) to ensure designs meet contract requirements.
  • Evaluate subcontractor bids and vendor proposals to select best value for performance, price and warranty.
  • Prepare written technical proposals and reports.
  • Develop commissioning approaches with Ameresco staff.
  • Ensure project scopes achieve guaranteed energy and performance metrics, comply with industry standards, codes and customer requirements.
  • Provide engineering support across all project phases (proposal, development, construction, commissioning, operation).
  • Cultivate positive relationships with colleagues, subcontractors and customers.
  • Communicate updates and resolve delays or concerns with project managers and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure quality control and timely, on‑budget delivery meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
  • Travel as required to support projects.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in engineering from an accredited four‑year institution.
  • At least five years of experience in engineering, construction or project management focused on energy efficiency and renewable technologies such as boilers, chillers, building automation, HVAC, building envelope, PV solar, and water/steam distribution.
Additional Qualifications
  • Experience with the construction phase of project development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical presentation.
  • Experience with ESPC or UESC contracts.
  • Knowledge of solar PV, battery storage, cogeneration, microgrids, and power systems.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
  • Ability to review confidential U.S. security information.
  • Valid driver's license issued by state of residence in good standing.
