Job summary

Balfour Beatty US is seeking an entry-level Project Engineer for the Carolinas division. You will work closely with project leadership to assist planning, scheduling, documentation, and coordination across teams and clients.

This role offers hands-on experience in all construction phases and lays the foundation for a career in construction project management. You will gain exposure to multiple disciplines while developing technical, organizational, and leadership skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
• Strong knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and project coordination.
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning, scheduling, and coordination between team members, subcontractors, and clients.
• Support documentation control and distribution of revised specifications and drawings.
• Identify long-lead items and maintain material expediting logs.
• Contribute to pull planning and critical path meetings.
• Track RFIs and submittals, ensuring timely approvals.
• Support quality control programs and inspections.
• Assist with change management processes and progress reports.
• Aid in project turnover and owner training documentation.

Summary

Balfour Beatty is seeking a Project Engineer to join the National SPG (Special Projects Group) for the Carolinas division. The ideal candidate will be a motivated, detail-oriented professional eager to start a career in construction project management. This entry-level role offers hands-on experience in all phases of construction and serves as the foundation for future growth within Balfour Beatty’s project operations track.

As a Project Engineer,you’llwork closely with project leadership toassistwith planning, scheduling, documentation, and coordination between team members, subcontractors, and clients.You’llgain exposure to multiple construction disciplines while developing the technical, organizational, and leadership skills needed to manage projects successfully. Essential Functions

• Safety Support:Promote and enforce safety rules and regulations;assistwith subcontractor orientations and safety documentation; perform and document weekly inspections in alignment withZero Harm®.
• Preconstruction Assistance:Attend and document preconstruction meetings; help develop scopes of work and bid packages; support document control and distribution of revised specifications and drawings.
• Planning & Scheduling:Assist inidentifyinglong-lead items,maintainingmaterialexpeditinglogs, and preparing submittal schedules;participatein pull planning and critical path meetings.
• Project Coordination:Administer the RFI and submittal process, ensuring all documents are coordinated across trades, reviewed, and approved in support of project schedule milestones.
• Field Support:Track subcontractor progress and ensure workcomplies withplans, specifications, and quality requirements;maintainas-built drawings and documentation.
• Quality Control:Assistin developing andmaintainingquality control programs and tracking systems; coordinate inspections and help resolve deficiencies.
• Cost & Documentation:Support the change management process, prepare progress reports, andassistwith meeting documentation and correspondence.
• Closeout:Assistin project turnover by compiling closeout documents, owner manuals, and as-builts; coordinate owner training and ensure all items are properly documented and delivered.

MinimumRequirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, ora relatedfield.
• Knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and project coordination principles.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
• Proficiencywith Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Demonstrated interest in pursuing a long-term career in construction management.

Preferred Experience

• Internship or co-op experience with a commercial general contractor and/or 1+ year past experience.
• Proficiencywith project management software such as Procore, Primavera P6, or Bluebeam.
• OSHA 30 certification and First Aid training (or ability to obtain).
