The Project Engineer plays a critical role in delivering successful construction projects by coordinating the information, people, and processes that move a project from preconstruction through closeout. Working closely with the Project Manager and Superintendent, the Project Engineer ensures project documentation is accurate, technical information is effectively coordinated, procurement and project controls are well managed, field operations are supported, and communication among owners, design partners, subcontractors, suppliers, and the project team remains timely and effective. Through proactive planning, attention to detail, and collaborative problem solving, the Project Engineer helps deliver projects safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and to Schommer & Sons' quality standards.
Ensure project information is accurate, complete, and accessible so the project team can make informed decisions and execute work with confidence. Maintain the integrity of all project documentation from project startup through closeout, ensuring contract documents, RFIs, submittals, drawings, permits, correspondence, as-built records, and closeout documentation are organized, current, and properly maintained.
Support successful project execution by translating contract documents into coordinated field activities. Identify and resolve design questions, coordinate technical information among project stakeholders, and proactively address constructability issues before they affect safety, quality, schedule, or cost.
Help secure the people, materials, and agreements needed to deliver the project successfully. Support subcontractor procurement, contract administration, material procurement, and buyout activities to ensure work is awarded to qualified partners, long-lead items are delivered on schedule, and contractual obligations are properly documented and executed.
Partner with field leadership to ensure work is installed safely, correctly, and in accordance with project requirements. Maintain an active presence in the field, identify issues early, verify quality standards, document project progress, and support a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Participate in field walks and progress reviews. Support safety inspections and documentation. Assist with quality assurance and quality control inspections. Document construction progress through photographs and field reports. Help identify and resolve field issues before they impact schedule or cost.
Coordinate communication between owners, architects, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal team members. Lead or support project meetings and distribute meeting minutes. Prepare project status information for Owner-Architect-Contractor meetings. Maintain professional, responsive communication throughout the project. Foster a collaborative, solution-oriented project environment.
