Job summary

The H&K Group, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer to manage planning, design, and permitting of civil engineering projects including highways, subdivisions, and land development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or 1 year of related experience.
• Ability to read blueprints and technical documents.
• Strong knowledge of stormwater, erosion and sediment control.
• Strong knowledge of water and sewer design principles.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to interpret municipal land use ordinances.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Perform work according to OSHA and company safety policies.
• Prepare site analyses to determine density and layout constraints per municipal ordinances.
• Prepare horizontal and vertical alignments for streets and profiles.
• Develop detailed grading plans.
• Design stormwater management per ordinances or state practices.
• Design water supply and sewage facilities.
• Develop erosion/sedimentation control/NPDES plans.
• Coordinate utility design and manage sub-consultants.
• Attend field and client meetings to discuss design aspects.
• Write narratives and forms of correspondence.
• Carry out other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, organized, competent, and professional individual who manages the planning, design and permitting of civil engineering projects including, but not limited to, highways, subdivisions, and land development. Individual should possess a strong knowledge of stormwater, erosion and sediment control, water and sewer design principles and should be able to interpret and apply municipal land use ordinances.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs all work according to OSHA and H&K Safety policies
• Prepare thorough site analysis to determine allowable density and layout constraints based upon municipal land use ordinances and site-specific features.
• Prepare horizontal and vertical alignment of street layout and profiles.
• Prepare detailed grading plans.
• Prepare thorough stormwater management design based upon municipal land use ordinances and/or State best management practices/regulations.
• Prepare thorough water supply and sewage facilities design.
• Prepare erosion and sedimentation control/NPDES plans and post construction stormwater management designs in accordance with State best management practices/regulations.
• Prepare utility design and manage utility coordination for various land development projects.
• Manage sub-consultants related to geotechnical, wetlands, traffic, etc.
• Travel to field, project, Township, etc. meetings to communicate project design aspects with Project Managers, Engineers, Township officials and Clients. (A company fleet vehicle will be provided in such instances.)
• Ability to write comprehensive and detailed narratives and various forms of correspondence.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Skills, Education, and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university OR one year of related experience and/or training
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
• Ability to read blueprints and job-related documents.
• Strong knowledge of stormwater, erosion, and sediment control
• Strong knowledge of water and sewer design principles
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Able to interpret and apply municipal land use ordinances
• Basic computer skills including MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
• Experience with specific programs
  • AutoCAD 2017 (or later version)
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D 2017 (or more recent version)
  • Hydraflow
• Driver’s license and clean driving record
• Ability to fit test & utilize appropriate PPE as needed
• Ability to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job)

Preferred Skills, Education, and Experience

• 2 years of relevant experience and/or training
• Experience using VTPSUHM
• OSHA or other relevant safety certifications
