Job summary

Cumming Group in Palmdale, CA seeks an experienced Project Engineer to support public sector projects for a local municipality. You will work with project, program, and client leadership to manage design, construction, and closeout activities.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field and a minimum of five years' construction project management experience, with familiarity with public contracting codes and FF&E coordination.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field.
• A minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction project management.
• Knowledge of public contracting code and practices.
• Prior experience with FF&E coordination is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide design, technical, engineering, and administrative support to the project team during the preconstruction, construction, and closeout phases.
• Coordinates with contractors, architects, engineers, inspectors, consultants and school staff.
• Responsible for project document control, circulating, receiving, tracking, and maintaining organized document files such as meeting minutes, RFIs, submittals, change orders, ASIs, schedules.
• Reads and interprets construction plans, specifications and shop drawings.
• Reviews, estimates, negotiates, and processes construction change orders and construction field orders.
• Prepares Scope of Work and procurement documents for solicitation of consultant and contractor services.
• Manages close-out of construction projects, including, but not limited to, punch-lists, as-builts, and archiving.

This opportunity will support public sector projects on behalf of a local municipality. The public works project management team provides construction management services to municipalities, county, and state agencies. You will be teaming with project, program, and client leadership to provide premier educational facilities for our nation’s youth and adults seeking to better themselves through learning.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Provide design, technical, engineering, and administrative support to the project team during the preconstruction, construction, and closeout phases of the project.Coordinates with contractors, architects, engineers, inspectors, consultants and school staff.Responsible for project document control, circulating, receiving, tracking, and maintaining organized document files such as meeting minutes, RFIs, submittals, change orders, ASIs, schedules, etc.Responsible for management of review comments from project stakeholders.Participates in, and occasionally runs, design construction, or pe-bid meetings.Makes field checks on construction, demolition, rehabilitation, alteration addition or repair projects to determine compliance with job specifications, plans, and established school standards.Reads and interprets construction plans, specifications and shop drawings.Assists in preparing written materials including correspondence, reports, procedures, and guidelines.Supports development of daily/weekly/monthly project status reports and photos reports for project team.Reviews, estimates, negotiates, and processes construction change orders and construction field orders.Reviews and enforces construction and professional services contracts.Facilitates resolutions of construction and design issues.Confirms contractors maintenance of records prior to monthly progress payments to the Contractor.Prepares Scope of Work and procurement documents for solicitation of consultant and contractor services.Manages close-out of construction projects, including, but not limited to, punch-lists, as-builts, and archiving.Other job-related duties or projects as assigned.Knowledge & Skills Required:Experience with design & bid formulation and project phase scheduling.Experience with the Addenda and Bid process.Ability to facilitate site meetings and prepare meeting minutes.Ability to communicate with various stakeholders, internal and external to the company.Demonstrate an understanding of how project documentation impacts the project flow.Ability to read blueprints.Utilize effective written and oral communication skills.Understand how your role contributes to the organization's goals.Deliver quality work product by role modeling organizational core values.Hold self accountable to individual and team goals.Consistently communicate and collaborate with team members and clients.Build relationships with peers, leaders, and clients.Preferred Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field.A minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction project management.
