Job summary

Cumming Group is seeking an experienced Project Engineer in Long Beach, CA to support education facilities projects across preconstruction, construction, and closeout phases. You will coordinate with multiple stakeholders and manage documentation, meetings, and change orders to ensure quality outcomes for K-12 and higher education sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or related field required.
• Minimum five years of construction project management experience, preferably in public works or educational facilities.
• Experience with design-build or progressive design-build delivery methods is preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret plans and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Provide design, technical, engineering, and administrative support across preconstruction, construction, and closeout phases.
• Coordinate with contractors, architects, engineers, inspectors, and school staff to drive projects forward.
• Manage project documentation, meetings, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
• Lead or participate in design-construction and pre-bid meetings and review comments from stakeholders.
• Prepare scopes of work, procurement documents, and ensure close-out with punch lists and DSAs.

This opportunity will have you working within our Education project sector. The Education team is a prime consultant to multiple school districts in the country and provides services to K-12 as well as higher education institutions nationally. You will be teaming with project, program, and client leadership to provide premier educational facilities for our nation’s youth and adults seeking to better themselves through learning.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Provide design, technical, engineering, and administrative support to the project team during the preconstruction, construction, and closeout phases of the project.Coordinates with contractors, architects, engineers, inspectors, consultants and school staff.Responsible for project document control, circulating, receiving, tracking, and maintaining organized document files such as meeting minutes, RFIs, submittals, change orders, ASIs, schedules, etc.Responsible for management of review comments from project stakeholders.Participates in, and occasionally runs, design construction, or pe-bid meetings.Makes field checks on construction, demolition, rehabilitation, alteration addition or repair projects to determine compliance with job specifications, plans, and established school standards.Reads and interprets construction plans, specifications and shop drawings.Assists in preparing written materials including correspondence, reports, procedures, and guidelines.Supports development of daily/weekly/monthly project status reports and photos reports for project team.Reviews, estimates, negotiates, and processes construction change orders and construction field orders.Reviews and enforces construction and professional services contracts.Facilitates resolutions of construction and design issues.Confirms contractors maintenance of records prior to monthly progress payments to the Contractor.Prepares Scope of Work and procurement documents for solicitation of consultant and contractor services.Manages close-out of construction projects, including, but not limited to, punch-lists, as-builts, archiving, and DSA certification.Other job-related duties or projects as assigned.Knowledge & Skills Required:Experience with design & bid formulation and project phase scheduling.Experience with the Addenda and Bid process.Ability to facilitate site meetings and prepare meeting minutes.Ability to communicate with various stakeholders, internal and external to the company.Demonstrate an understanding of how project documentation impacts the project flow.Ability to read blueprints.Utilize effective written and oral communication skills.Understand how your role contributes to the organization's goals.Deliver quality work product by role modeling organizational core values.Hold self accountable to individual and team goals.Consistently communicate and collaborate with team members and clients.Build relationships with peers, leaders, and clients.Preferred Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field.A minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction project management.
