Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering preferred.
  • 1–3 years in heavy civil construction or related field preferred.
  • Understanding of plans, specs, and project docs.
  • Experience reviewing plans for constructability preferred.
  • EIT/FE certification preferred or ability to obtain; PE licensure a plus.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management.
  • Driver's license with valid driving record; able to travel in the Greater Phoenix area.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; CM software experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Managers with daily administration of heavy civil projects.
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation.
  • Coordinate project correspondence with owners, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Route contracts for internal and external signatures; maintain contract files.
  • Coordinate procurement of bonds and ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Prepare and distribute submittal packages; track approvals and logs.
  • Distribute updated drawings and verify field use of latest docs.

Project Engineer

Location: Mesa, AZ

Pay: Starting at $65,000 DOE

We are a 100% employee‑owned, family‑run heavy civil construction company specializing in underground utilities, earthwork, roadway construction, and site development. At Kinkaid Civil Construction, we take pride in self‑performing high‑quality work while maintaining a strong culture built around integrity, safety, accountability, and teamwork.

We are currently seeking a motivated Project Engineer to join our growing team in Mesa, Arizona. The ideal candidate is organized, detail‑oriented, and eager to build a career in heavy civil construction while supporting projects from pre‑construction through closeout. This position works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, and owners to help ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to Kinkaid's quality standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Project Administration

  • Assist Project Managers with the daily administration of heavy civil construction projects.
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate project correspondence with owners, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.

Contract Administration

  • Route contracts for internal and external signatures.
  • Organize and maintain fully executed contracts within project files.
  • Assist in tracking contractual requirements and project documentation.

Bond Management

  • Coordinate the procurement of Payment and Performance Bonds as required by project specifications.
  • Maintain bond documentation and ensure compliance with contract requirements.

Document Control & Submittals

  • Prepare and distribute submittal packages.
  • Maintain submittal logs and track approvals.
  • Organize RFIs, project correspondence, and construction documentation.
  • Ensure all project documentation is current and accurately maintained.

Plans & Drawing Management

  • Distribute updated drawings and plan revisions to field teams and subcontractors.
  • Verify the latest project documents are being utilized in the field.
  • Assist with reviewing plans and specifications for constructability and coordination.

Subcontracts & Procurement

  • Assist in reviewing subcontractor and supplier proposals for scope completeness and quantity accuracy.
  • Support the preparation and tracking of purchase orders and subcontract documentation.
  • Maintain current contact information for owners, consultants, subcontractors, and vendors.

Field Coordination

  • Perform routine project site visits to verify progress and support field operations.
  • Assist with quantity verification and project documentation.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Superintendents to help maintain project schedules and budgets.
  • Support problem‑solving efforts between field operations and project management.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in heavy civil construction, underground utilities, earthwork or a related construction environment preferred.
  • Understanding of construction plans, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Experience reviewing plans and identifying constructability concerns is preferred.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT/FE) certification preferred or the ability to obtain; Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced construction environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; experience with construction management software is preferred.
  • Self‑motivated with a strong work ethic and desire to grow within an employee‑owned company.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel between project sites throughout the Greater Phoenix Metro area.
