Job summary

Novum Structures LLC is seeking an experienced structural engineer to handle engineering matters on assigned projects, including code analysis, structural analysis, design and calculations. The role coordinates with field teams and manages the preparation and submission of calculated designs.

The candidate should have a Master’s in Civil/Mechanical/Architectural with structural emphasis and 1–5 years of related experience, plus proficiency in STAAD, RSTAB, ANSYS and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Review contract documents, codes and project requirements to design efficiently and safely.
  • Develop structural schemes and cladding details aligned with budget and schedule.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure seamless work flow.
  • Prepare calculations and calculation booklets for submittals to clients.
  • Review shop/subcontractor drawings for fit, strength and compliance.

Job description

Authority, Scope and Basic Function

To handle all engineering matters as they relate to assigned projects. Responsible to provide technical services for projects including code analysis, structural analysis, design and calculations, coordination of all structure and cladding details, facilitation of engineering stamp and obtaining approvals from the client. Ensure all engineering services are on time and use the allotted material quantities and within budget

Essential Duties and Principal Responsibilities
  1. Receive new projects from Sales and first produce a comparative take off study versus the estimate of summary of the materials to be used and the technical time allotted. Notify Project Manager of result. Follow up with Project Manager and Sales with appropriate questions for any clarification before proceeding with design.
  2. Review all contract documents, sales documents and building codes so as to correctly/efficiently proceed with the design.
  3. Assist early on with the Field Coordinator to develop method statements so that any field structural requirements are incorporated in the design.
  4. Compose RFIs as needed to obtain any necessary information not already shown in the Contract Documents.
  5. Develop structural schemes and cladding details according to the contractual obligations, architectural intent, budget and time schedules. Suggest value engineered ideas to Project Manager to establish if team can reduce costs.
  6. Utilize standard system products wherever appropriate.
  7. Manage the detailers to keep design and materials use in budget and function. Do not compromise safety but ensure efficient design.
  8. Plan and oversee shop and fabrication drawings and calculation books. Before submittal and release to production, check all aspects of drawings including physical fit and structural integrity.
  9. Check subcontractor drawings and coordinate their technical work with Novum technical work completely.
  10. Make sure any client changes are notified to the Project Manager and ensure all drawings and documents issued are current and team notified.
  11. Perform any necessary calculations in justifying member sizes and connection details and to produce calculation booklet for submittal to client.
  12. Facilitate the review of calculations and drawings with Engineering Consultant in obtaining a sealed stamped set for the region where project is located.
  13. External coordination with architects, consultants, subcontractors and contractors allowing them to plan and organize their work, creating schedules and communications with others; to obtain approval of the drawings and calculations
  14. Internally coordinate with team members and workshop to meet project milestones execution in budget.
  15. Provide Sales technical support as required.
  16. Perform any other technical requirements of a general nature as they come up.
  17. Maintain company assigned equipment in good working condition at all times
  18. Follow company policies and processes. Recommend improvements to Supervisor.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Master's Degree (Civil, Mechanical or Architectural) with structural emphasis (license a plus, but not required).
  • One (1) to five (5) years of applicable experience designing structures utilizing space frame, lattice structures, etc.
  • Experience in Structural Analysis using finite element method of analysis
  • Creative thinker with ability to make decisions quickly and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Organized and highly detailed. Self starter.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Willingness to work within deadlines.
  • Ability to work within a team setting in achieving corporate goals.
  • Skills and interest in drawing, CAD experience, 3D knowledge.
  • Use of basic computer tools and software (Microsoft Word, Excel, AutoCAD, etc.); experience with STAAD, RSTAB, ANSYS or similar essential.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally. Travel of up to 30% may be required
