Job summary

MLJ Contracting is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead heavy construction programs in the NYC area. The role focuses on delivering major public works projects with safety and quality at the forefront.

The candidate will manage subcontractors, coordinate schedules, and monitor costs, with a strong emphasis on documentation and compliance with NYC DOB requirements. A Civil/Mechanical Engineering background is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • OSHA 30-hour and SST certificates preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in project delivery and construction management.
  • Experience with MTA/public agency projects preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and manage cost controls.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Project Managers on deliverables.
  • Manage key sub-contractors and material contracts.
  • Oversee scheduling of shop drawings and submittals.
  • Maintain current records for submittals and communications.
  • Support monthly forecasting of revenue and costs.

II. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).

30-hour OSHA and SST certificates are preferred.

III. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work closely with Project Managers on Project Deliverables.
  • Management of key sub-contractors.
  • Process/manage material deliveries - ensure that materials received are properly inspected for quantity and quality and are in compliance with contract documents.
  • Manage and negotiate subcontractor and material contracts.
  • Manage closeout of areas and handover to the client
  • Assist in updating the project schedule and ensure milestones are met.
  • Coordinate and schedule shop drawings and submittals.
  • Maintain a complete and current record of submittals, approvals and resubmittals, including a file of letters of transmittal and dates of each transaction.
  • High level of involvement in the operations of our cost control system and analysis of construction costs.
  • Participate in monthly forecasting revenue and cost accruals.
  • Accumulate all necessary data and prepare monthly pay estimates.
  • Process and estimate change orders and requests for information as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Understand NYC DOB health & safety requirements.
  • Management and mentoring of junior members of the team.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
IV. QUALIFICATIONS OF THE POSITION
  • 5+ years of experience.
  • MTA and other public agency experience highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in basic engineering computations and analysis.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of Auto Cad or drafting software is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, and computer skills.

#ZR Salary Range: $100,000 - $170,000 USD
