Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Manager in planning, coordination, and execution of construction activities.
  • Review drawings and specifications for field crews and supervision.
  • Perform quantity take-offs, cost tracking, and monitor materials/work completion.
  • Prepare work plans, packages, and project schedules.
  • Support field surveying and layout, including elevations and control points.
  • Assist with material procurement, delivery scheduling, and subcontractor coordination.
  • Participate in safety reviews and toolbox talks.
  • Prepare project documentation and correspondence with the project team.
  • Coordinate work groups and support field operations as needed.

Job description

Metric Geo has partnered with one of the top contractors in New York and are looking for Project Engineers to join one of the most exciting and prestigious projects in the city. This position is based in New York, NY, and requires daily presence in the office and/or on construction sites.

This position supports a joint venture delivering Design-Build services for a large public transit agency, working on a multi-year underground transit expansion program in Manhattan. The work includes tunneling, structural shell construction, and rehabilitation of existing underground infrastructure, a key cost-containment measure for the program. The team is advancing new tunnel sections and excavating underground station caverns using modern tunnel boring methods.

  • Support the Project Manager in the planning, coordination, and execution of construction activities.
  • Review drawings and specifications and help interpret them for field crews and craft supervision.
  • Perform quantity take-offs and cost tracking, and monitor percentage of completed/installed materials and work.
  • Prepare and maintain work plans, work packages, and project schedules.
  • Support field surveying and work layout, including elevation, control points, and as-built data.
  • Assist with material procurement, delivery scheduling, and subcontractor coordination.
  • Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, mass safety meetings, and safety training.
  • Prepare project documentation, progress reports, and correspondence with the project team.
  • Coordinate work groups on the jobsite and support field operations as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in an accredited Civil/Mechanical Engineering or related undergraduate program.
  • Demonstrated interest or prior experience in heavy civil construction or a related field.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to express ideas effectively to engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Ability to take direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, spreadsheets, and related technology.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and abiding by company safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering or related Master's or PhD program.
  • Experience using MicroStation, AutoCAD, and knowledge of reading drawings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
