Job summary

HireFocus LLC is seeking a Responsible Engineer for spaceflight pressure vessel products. Lead design and qualification activities, generating 3D models and engineering drawings to meet customer requirements.

You will collaborate with program managers, engineering, supply chain, and operations through design, development, and qualification phases, driving robust, manufacturable solutions for critical spaceflight hardware.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 5 years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Strong understanding of DFMA and GD&T; CAD proficiency, Creo preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create CAD models and drawings for new products, subassemblies and components, including defining GD&T.
  • Work with analysis team to ensure design meets all product requirements.
  • Provide engineering support for existing product lines including nonconformance review and disposition, corrective actions, and customer support.
  • Provide engineering support for new product proposals and quoting.
  • Direct development activities with program managers, including design, analysis, testing and process development.

Responsible Engineer, Pressure Vessels/Propellant Tanks
Role Summary/Purpose

Responsible Engineer is a critical engineering position reporting to the Engineering Director that will support product design and qualification efforts on spaceflight pressure vessel products. The RE will be technical lead on multiple new product development projects, responsible for working with the customer and the engineering team to design new products based on customer requirements and generate the 3D models and engineering drawings associated.

The position will work closely with program managers, engineering, supply chain, and operations throughout the product design, development, and qualification phases.

The position will provide engineering support on existing product lines including review and assessment of nonconformances, assisting or leading root cause and corrective action (RCCA) investigations, design and drawing revisions, and providing customer engineering support. The position will work closely with program management and manufacturing engineering in maintaining and revising engineering drawings and documentation for the products.

The ideal candidate is a well-rounded engineer with strong mechanical intuition and wide background of experience in aerospace structural design, manufacture, and test processes, who is looking for a high impact, multi-disciplinary technical position working on critical spaceflight hardware in a manufacturing setting. Candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills, and be comfortable clearly and confidently presenting technical material to a wide audience of internal and external stakeholders from different disciplines.

  • Take ownership of new product design and development programs within the portfolio of spaceflight pressure vessels and propellant tanks
  • Serve as customer’s technical point of contact on the program.
  • Develop novel, robust, cost-effective, and manufacturable design solutions to meet customer’s critical mission and schedule requirements
  • Work with program manager to schedule and manage development activities including design, analysis, and requirements iteration, materials testing, and process development.
  • Create CAD models and drawings for new products, subassemblies, and components, including specifying manufacturing and inspection requirements, defining GD&T.
  • Work with analysis team to ensure design meets all product requirements
  • Work with manufacturing engineering to specify product BOMs and manufacturing, assembly, and test process flow
  • Provide engineering support for existing product lines including assisting in nonconformance review and disposition, corrective actions, design and drawing revisions, and customer engineering support.
  • Provide engineering support for new product proposals and quoting
  • Provide engineering support in reviewing data and guiding critical development and qualification activities such as material coupon and tank qualification test programs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering experience in relevant field
  • Strong understanding of fundamental design engineering principles, DFMA, GD&T.
  • Strong experience in CAD required, preferably Creo experience.
Desired Qualifications
  • Pressure vessel design experience or related highly desired.
  • Composites design and manufacturing experience, especially filament winding, highly desired
  • Desired areas of experience include:
  • General/working knowledge of stress analysis and FEA techniques and ability to interpret FEA results to iterate/improve design
  • Knowledgeable about aerospace structures testing techniques and instrumentation including pressure, static load, vibration, thermal cycling
  • Aerospace experience valued
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
