Job summary

The Christman Company in Central Michigan is seeking a Project Engineer to support project teams with documentation, risk management, and close‑out activities. You will produce and organize documents, update drawings, manage RFIs, submittals, and punch lists, and collaborate with the client and architect to keep projects on schedule.

This role emphasizes attention to detail, timely reporting, and adherence to Christman standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum one year of construction industry experience; internships apply.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and organize project and professional documents consistent with Christman standards and risk management standards.
  • Proactively prepare project documents for close-out, turnover, and archiving; ensure MSDS and quality control plans are included.
  • Plan, communicate, and process close-out documents of all subcontracts as work concludes.
  • Summarize discussions, questions, and decisions from meetings.
  • Coordinate punch-list contents with client and architect; expedite punch lists within 30 days after substantial completion.
  • Assist with identifying inspections and create project-specific inspection logs.
  • Provide information on procurement, material tracking, and inspections to the Project Superintendent.
  • Manage the RFI process and ensure timely information flow.
  • Update contract drawings to reflect approved changes and update trade contractor documents.
  • Organize and prioritize submittal requirements; review for completeness.
  • Support Superintendent by monitoring quality of work and compliance with construction documents.
  • Assist with daily reports and progress/quality photos management.
  • Support logistics for safety initiatives listed in the site safety plan.

What You Will Do

As Project Engineer, your primary daily responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Produce and organize project and professional documents consistent with Christman standards and risk management standards for the document type to enable team members to readily access necessary documentation.
  • Proactively prepare project documents for close‑out, turnover, and archiving to allow efficient final compilation and delivery on schedule, as well as secure all necessary contractually required documents, including safety programs, Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) documents for all required chemicals and materials used on the project, and quality control plans.
  • Plan, communicate, and process close‑out documents of all subcontracts as work concludes.
  • Accurately summarize important discussions, questions, and decisions raised during regular project team meetings, owner meetings, and weekly subcontractor meetings.
  • Partner with client and architect to establish punch‑list contents.
  • Utilize current technology to expedite the punch list process. The goal is to complete the punch list 30 days after substantial completion.
  • Assist the Project Manager with identifying necessary inspections and create project‑specific inspection logs according to Christman standards.
  • Provides information on all procurement, material tracking, and inspections to the Project Superintendent.
  • Manage the RFI process and ensure that information is flowing timely to all parties.
  • Update contract drawings to reflect all approved changes and ensure trade contractor documents update.
  • Organize and prioritize submittal requirements specified in contract documents and review for completeness.
  • Supports Project Superintendent by monitoring quality of work and compliance with construction documents as assigned by the Project Superintendent.
  • Assist the Project Superintendent with daily reports and the management of all progress and quality photos.
  • Supports the logistics process for all safety initiatives listed in the site specific safety plan.
What You Will Bring to the Team
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related job field.
  • Minimum one (1) year of construction industry experience. Previous internship(s) in construction management or related field will apply.
  • -or- Equivalent combination of the above education, training, and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related job field.
  • One (1) year of construction project management related experience.
