Job summary

CSM Group is hiring a Project Engineer to provide project management and administrative support on one or more projects. The role includes daily/weekly site inspections for safety and quality, preparing reports, assisting in scope writing and bid processes, and maintaining construction documents.

Travel to job sites is required, and the position is full-time. The PE reports to the Senior Project Manager and supports Project Managers and Construction Managers in collecting pricing for CCDs, with

Responsibilities

  • Preconstruction Activities: Understands customer-specific requirements and assists in preparing pre-construction analysis during project Design & Development
  • Develops scope specification documents and organizes related files for future work use
  • Creates and updates project schedules, phasing plans, and site logistics
  • Creates and monitors project submittal logs
  • Reviews, inputs, and distributes bidder’s requests for information (BRFIs)
  • Solicits proposals/bids from subcontractors and vendors for outsourced projects
  • Conducts pre-bid walkthroughs
  • Construction Activities: Attend project meetings; track progress and provide weekly status updates
  • Coordinates work with customers and subcontractors; provide oversight and direction
  • Prepares building permit applications and submits to municipality
  • Reviews/inputs contractor submittal documents and returns reviewed docs to trades
  • Reviews shop drawings and forwards for review
  • Keeps track of hours, materials, and progress via daily reports
  • Compiles weekly Project Manager reports in PM software
  • Reviews and inputs RFIs
  • Compiles and submits CCDs
  • Participates in progress meetings with owner, architect, trades
  • Maintains updated red line drawings and project documentation
  • Safety Inspections: Ensure site safety via Safe Plans of Action and safety logs
  • Address safety concerns and issue hot work permits
  • Perform safety observations and hygienic site reviews
  • Perform tool and equipment inspections
  • Ensure adherence to owner safety rules
  • Schedule safety meetings and implement corrective actions
  • Quality Inspections: Conduct hygienic site reviews; perform quality inspections
  • Ensure compliance with owner requirements; address concerns with corrective actions
  • Post Construction Activities: Attend post-bid interviews; collect inspections for occupancy
  • Prepare closeout documentation; create punch lists with owner/architect/trades
  • Schedule owner training and manage warranties
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

SUMMARY:

The Project Engineer (PE) provides project management and administrative support on one (or more) projects. The PE performs daily and/or weekly site inspections for safety and quality purposes and writes required daily and/or weekly reports based on inspections. They will assist in scope writing, bid solicitations, pre-construction meetings, walkthroughs, and post-bid interviews. The Project Engineer compiles and distributes progress meeting agendas and minutes. The PE receives, reviews and distributes submittals, shop drawings, and keeps accurate and updated construction documents. This position assists Project Managers and Construction Managers in collecting and organizing pricing for CCDs.

This position reports to the assigned Senior Project Manager. It is a full-time FLSA-exempt position requiring 40 work hours per week with the ability to work more if needed. The position requires daily travel to one or more job sites.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Preconstruction Activities
    • Understands customer-specific requirements and assists in preparing pre-construction analysis during project Design & Development.
    • Develops scope specification documents and organizes all related files for future work use including design elements and implementation procedures.
    • Creates and updates project schedules, phasing plans, and site logistics.
    • Creates and monitors project submittal logs.
    • Reviews, inputs, and distributes bidder’s requests for information (BRFI’s).
    • Solicits proposals/bids from subcontractors and vendors for outsourced projects.
    • Conducts pre-bid walkthroughs.
  • Construction Activities
    • Attends project meetings; tracks project progress and provides weekly status updates.
    • Coordinates work with customers and subcontractors; provides oversight and direction.
    • Prepares building permit applications and submits to municipality (if applicable).
    • Reviews and inputs all contractor submittal documents sent to architect and returns the reviewed documents to trade contractor before beginning work on site.
    • Reviews shop drawings and sends to architect and returns to trade contractor upon review.
    • Keeps track of work hours, materials, equipment, and work progress through daily progress reports.
    • Compiles the Project Manager’s weekly reports in project management software.
    • Reviews and inputs RFI’s send to architect for review and return to trade contractor upon review.
    • Compiles and submits CCDs as required.
    • Participates in progress meetings by preparing meeting agendas and minutes.
    • Attends owner progress meetings.
    • Keeps updated red line drawing set and project documentation.
  • Safety Inspections
    • Ensures site safety through review of procedure documents such as Safe Plans of Action (SPA).
    • Addresses critical safety concerns arising in the work field.
    • Issues hot work permits and checking hot work task areas for possible flammables and other altercations.
    • Performs safety observation reports (SORs), hygienic construction site reviews, safety inspection checklists.
    • Performs tool and equipment inspection checks.
    • Ensures abidance to owner safety rules and regulations.
    • Schedules and coordinates reoccurring safety meetings.
    • Determines and implements a corrective action plan when necessary
  • Quality Inspections
    • Performs hygienic construction site reviews.
    • Administers product quality inspections and addressing areas of concern.
    • Performs material equipment and craftsmanship inspections.
    • Ensures abidance to owner requirements.
    • Addresses owner’s concerns and implements corrective solution.
  • Post Construction Activities
    • Attends post bid interviews.
    • Compiles all required inspections for building occupancy.
    • Compiles required project closeout documentation.
    • Creates, distributes, and completes project punch list with owner, architect and trades.
    • Schedules and tracks owner training.
    • Manages warranty items
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

The employee is required to traverse uneven terrain and work from ladders, scaffolds, and other structures, as well as work at variable heights. The employee is frequently required to use hands to handle tools, controls, and for fine motor coordination like computer work. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. The employee must also occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

For Field positions, while performing this job, the employee must frequently inspect the project site and may be exposed to ongoing construction activities, vibrations, noise, and various outside weather conditions (in all seasons). Work environment involves moderate risks which may require safety precautions. The noise level in the work environment may range from quiet to loud. The proper use of Personnel Protective Equipment (including but not limited to safety boots, hardhat, and protective eyewear) is required on the jobsite.
