Job summary

Great Lakes Polymer Technologies is seeking a Process Engineer to optimize existing products, processes and systems to support ongoing business. This role also serves as the corporate expert on product applications and specifies the processes required to manufacture them.

You will lead trials from concept to prototype to initial production, collaborate with R&D, quality, production and maintenance to meet objectives, and ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.

Qualifications

  • 4 yr. B.S. in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial or Composite Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience with extrusion and plastics manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Incorporate and/or develop new or optimize existing processes to improve profitability, market share, or generate new business.

Job Summary

Process Engineer is responsible for optimizing existing products, processes and system to support ongoing business at Great Lakes Polymer Technologies. The person also acts as the corporate expert on existing and new product applications and specifying the processes required to manufacture them.

Key Responsibilities

Incorporate and/or develop new processes or optimize existing processes which improve profitability, market share or generate new business.

Lead material, product or process trials and commercialization efforts from concept to prototype to initial production.

Work closely with R&D, quality, production and maintenance teams to ensure company objectives are met.

Consult with manufacturing and customers as required for product design modifications.

Document all trial plans, reports, studies, customer test runs, and other reports as required.

Ensure processes comply with health, safety and environmental regulations.

Use statistical tools (SPC, Six Sigma, QW) to support quality control.

Provide technical support and training to plant operators and technicians.

Skills and Qualifications

Expertise in a broad range of plastics material related process equipment used to manufacture them.

Must have an in depth knowledge of manufacturing, quality and experimental (DOE) statistics.

Strong problem solving ability, using research to guide and data to decide most economic path forward for new developments.

Working knowledge of analytical and mechanical test methods used in plastics manufacturing (FTIR, DSC, TGA, mechanical property testing, etc.).

4 yr. B.S. Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial or Composite Engineering or equivalent experience preferred. Advanced degree preferred.

1-5+ Years of Experience in a process engineering or development role, preferably in extrusion.

Effective written and verbal communication skills within all layers of the organization.

Ability to work well with interdepartmental teams as well as independently.

Ability to work with minimal supervision and adapt to quickly changing schedules.

Travel:

Business travel as needed, not to exceed 20%.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment and on the plant floor.

Standard office hours: Monday to Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Work outside standard business hours as required.

Mental Effort:

Position requires high degree of analytical, problem solving and experimental ability as well as in-depth knowledge of plastics, additives and extrusion.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; handle, or feel objects, manufacturing physical tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel; and talk or hear; and taste or smell.
