Job summary

Great Lakes Polymer Technologies in Kingman, KS seeks a Process Engineer to optimize existing products and processes and act as the corporate expert on applications and manufacturing requirements.

You will lead trials, work with R&D, quality, production and maintenance to meet objectives, document results, ensure health, safety and environmental compliance, and apply SPC/ Six Sigma tools to support quality control while training plant operators.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Chemical/Mechanical/Industrial/Composite Engineering or equivalent.
  • 1-5+ years in a process engineering or development role ( extrusion preferred ).
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; teamwork across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize existing processes and develop new ones to improve profitability.

Job Summary

Process Engineer is responsible for optimizing existing products, processes and system to support ongoing business at Great Lakes Polymer Technologies. The person also acts as the corporate expert on existing and new product applications and specifying the processes required to manufacture them.

Key Responsibilities

Incorporate and/or develop new processes or optimize existing processes which improve profitability, market share or generate new business.

Lead material, product or process trials and commercialization efforts from concept to prototype to initial production.

Work closely with R&D, quality, production and maintenance teams to ensure company objectives are met.

Consult with manufacturing and customers as required for product design modifications.

Document all trial plans, reports, studies, customer test runs, and other reports as required.

Ensure processes comply with health, safety and environmental regulations.

Use statistical tools (SPC, Six Sigma, QW) to support quality control.

Provide technical support and training to plant operators and technicians.

Skills and Qualifications

Expertise in a broad range of plastics material related process equipment used to manufacture them.

Must have an in depth knowledge of manufacturing, quality and experimental (DOE) statistics.

Strong problem solving ability, using research to guide and data to decide most economic path forward for new developments.

Working knowledge of analytical and mechanical test methods used in plastics manufacturing (FTIR, DSC, TGA, mechanical property testing, etc.).

4 yr. B.S. Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial or Composite Engineering or equivalent experience preferred. Advanced degree preferred.

1-5+ Years of Experience in a process engineering or development role, preferably in extrusion.

Effective written and verbal communication skills within all layers of the organization.

Ability to work well with interdepartmental teams as well as independently.

Ability to work with minimal supervision and adapt to quickly changing schedules.

Travel:

Business travel as needed, not to exceed 20%.
