Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering major with 5 years of experience, or a CS degree with 7 years, or HS diploma with 9 years.
  • Advanced degree in engineering is preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance when required by the contract.

Responsibilities

  • Develops project-level technical solutions that implement approved system requirements within project constraints.
  • Reviews approved system requirements and system architecture; develops project execution plans, implementation approaches, interface definitions, and test plans.
  • Analyzes, designs, implements, integrates, and troubleshoots real-time software and hardware systems for aviation aircrew and maintenance training devices.
  • Tasks and leads engineers assigned to their project; conducts regular status meetings to ensure alignment with program management.
  • Identifies schedule conflicts, technical risks, and resource constraints; provide inputs to the Program Manager and recommends schedule or manpower changes.
  • Develops and maintains work packages, technical estimates, and execution plans based on a Work Breakdown Structure.

General Summary

The Project Engineer serves as the technical lead for assigned projects, responsible for translating approved system requirements and system architecture into executable engineering plans and delivering real-time software and hardware systems for training devices. The role provides project-level technical leadership, coordinates engineering disciplines, supports testing and customer delivery, develops technical estimates and proposals, and manages project technical risk and schedule inputs.

The Project Engineer works closely with Systems Engineering, Program Management, and the engineering team to ensure project requirements, architecture, interfaces, test plans, and delivery milestones are met. Their primary responsibility is to execute, integrate, test, and deliver approved technical solutions within project scope, schedule, budget, and quality constraints.

Essential Job Functions
  • Develops project-level technical solutions that implement approved system requirements within project constraints.
  • Reviews approved system requirements and system architecture; develops project execution plans, implementation approaches, interface definitions, and test plans.
  • Analyzes, designs, implements, integrates, and troubleshoots real-time software and hardware systems for aviation aircrew and maintenance training devices.
  • Tasks and leads engineers assigned to their project. Conducts regular status meetings with engineering and production team members to ensure alignment with program management.
  • Identifies schedule conflicts, technical risks, and resource constraints; provide inputs to the Program Manager and recommends schedule or manpower changes.
  • Develops and maintains work packages, technical estimates, and execution plans based on a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) when required.
  • Attends Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) events and In-Progress Reviews (IPR) ensuring discrepancies are recorded as Action Items and tracked to closure.
  • Works constructively with the engineering team, management, and customers to meet budget, schedule, and scope requirements.
  • Performs or coordinates testing at customer sites and early pre-release testing, including integration and pre-delivery validation.
  • Develops technical proposals and supports responses to Sources Sought, Request for Proposal (RFP), and Request for Information (RFI) with the Business Development team, ensuring technical accuracy and professional presentation.
  • Develops training level of effort estimates for customers.
  • Must be capable of safely handling government-furnished equipment and materials.
  • Must be available to work a standard weekly schedule with overtime as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • May be tasked to mentor less experienced engineers.
Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have a wide range of simulation knowledge in hardware and software in order to recommend solutions to best fit customer requirements.
  • Candidate must be self-motivated.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to establish priorities to ensure tasks are accomplished on schedule.
  • Respond to tasks and mentorship from Engineering Manager.
  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance when required by the contract.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering major and five (5) years of experience in engineering discipline; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science and seven (7) years of experience in an engineering discipline; or
  • HS diploma or equivalent and nine (9) years of experience in engineering.
  • Advanced degree in engineering preferred.
