Qualifications

Responsibilities

Skills

Role Summary

CANUSA EPC LLC is seeking a Project Engineer III to execute upstream and midstream oil & gas projects from definition through delivery. This role requires an engineer with 4–8 years of EPC/EPCM or owner-side experience who understands how projects actually get built not just designed.

The Project Engineer III is responsible for planning, scheduling, cost control, technical oversight, and field execution, while providing leadership and mentorship to junior engineers. This position regularly interfaces with clients, vendors, and subcontractors and is expected to make sound engineering and execution decisions.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute upstream and midstream oil & gas projects in accordance with PMI-based project controls
  • Develop project execution plans, schedules, budgets, and forecasts
  • Manage engineering deliverables across piping, process, mechanical, electrical, civil, and automation disciplines
  • Control engineering, fabrication, and automation progress against project scope and schedule
  • Manage procurement activities and vendor technical alignment
  • Develop TIC estimates for brownfield and greenfield facilities
  • Implement and manage project change control
  • Perform quality control reviews of engineering deliverables
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and internal design teams
  • Generate project progress, forecast, and cost control reports
  • Lead project and technical coordination meetings
  • Serve as the primary engineering interface with clients and operations personnel
  • Support proposal development, EPC estimates, and new business pursuits
  • Travel to project sites for meetings, inspections, and field support (Mainly focusing on Houston, West Texas and OKC/Tulsa offices, with some travel to Denver as needed) 20% travel
  • Generate and evaluate specifications for piping systems, compression, pumps, and rotating equipment
  • Develop and review Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Review and approve detailed piping layouts and fabrication drawings
  • Perform pipe sizing calculations and system evaluations
  • Size and evaluate engineered equipment and instrumentation (PSVs, meters, valves, etc.)
  • Specify vendor requirements and review technical submittals
  • Monitor vendor progress and compliance with design specifications
  • Conduct site walks and field surveys to gather design and constructability data
  • Interface directly with customer engineering, operations, and maintenance teams
  • Mentor and technically guide junior engineers and designers
Required Technical Competencies
  • Strong working knowledge of ASME B31 piping codes and applicable oil & gas standards
  • Proficiency with P&IDs, mass balance diagrams, and piping specifications
  • Experience with compression, pump, and rotating equipment sizing
  • Working knowledge of process simulation tools (ProMax, HYSYS)
  • Proficiency in piping design and material selection
  • Familiarity with oil & gas constructability, fabrication, and logistics
  • Experience reviewing vendor drawings and data books
  • Working knowledge of Bluebeam
  • Solid understanding of oil & gas facility execution (greenfield and brownfield)
  • Working knowledge of PMI project execution principles
  • Ability to lead interdisciplinary engineering teams
  • Strong technical judgment and decision-making ability
  • Effective communicator with clients, vendors, and internal teams
  • Organized, detail-driven, and capable of managing multiple work fronts
  • Self-directed engineer who understands execution constraints and field realities
Experience Requirements
  • 4–8 years of engineering experience in upstream or midstream oil & gas or refining
  • Experience working with EPCs, EPCMs, producers, or midstream operators
  • Background in engineering design, construction management, or facility operations
Education & Credentials
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Eligible for Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in the U.S. (preferred)
  • Oil & Gas construction or operations training
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid passport with eligibility to travel between the U.S. and Canada
  • Combination of office and field-based work
  • Travel to project sites across North America
  • PPE required at job sites
