Job summary

Brice Construction & Design LLC seeks an Project Engineer to coordinate construction and administration on design-build projects in the Houston area. You will enter data into Excel, HCSS, and other systems, ensuring plans, specs, schedules, and permits are followed while maintaining safety and quality.

You will travel extensively (70–90%) and work with cost accounting to manage contract finances, with a fast-paced environment and opportunities to grow within Calista Brice’s family of companies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management required or substituted with relevant experience.
  • 2–3 years civil project engineering experience required.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and technical documents.
  • Proficiency with Excel and construction data systems.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate construction activities onsite and in administration.

  • Ensure adherence to plans, specs, schedules, codes and permits.

What can you expect?

As the Project Engineer, you will work onsite in Houston, TX and the surrounding areas will be responsible for planning and coordination of activities concerned with construction and administrative management. You are responsible for ensuring project technical and reporting requirements are followed. This includes adherence to plans, specifications, schedules, applicable codes, and permits, as well as compliance with accepted engineering practices and company standards. In this role you will be required to enter information into Excel, HCSS, and/or other construction data systems on design-build projects; implementing fast-track design and construction packages; and administering construction quality and safety in a dynamic environment. This position will require travel due to work-related purposes for extended periods.

How will you do it?
  • Interpret plans and contract terms including job cost coding.
  • Ensure that field activities adhere to contract plans, specs, and company policies.
  • Perform duties as liaison with construction managers and other contacts to facilitate project objectives.
  • Coordinate work schedules, communications, and work activities with job subcontractors.
  • Complete daily project reporting that includes cost analysis, timekeeping, environmental and permit compliance, daily reports, Quality Assurance/Quality Control, quantities, and safety program documentation.
  • Coordinate project activities between office management and field management.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination among all project participants.
  • Ensure compliance with current project schedule and project completion documentation.
  • Work with Cost Accounting to manage the financial aspects of the contract to protect company interest and maintain good relations with customers.
  • Determine supplies and materials needed to complete projects and requisition same.
  • Formulate reports including work progress and cost schedules.
  • Assist in negotiation and buyout of subcontractors and vendors.
  • Represent the company in project meetings as needed.
  • Assist Project Manager with day-to-day project operations.
  • Travel to project locations up to 70%-90% of the time.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to type 45 words per minute and should have adequate knowledge of database software, spreadsheet software, and word processing software. Microsoft packages are preferred.
  • Ability to learn costing and accounting procedures.
  • Ability to learn computer-based construction and scheduling programs.
  • Ability to professionally and effectively communicate with employees, business partners, and clients via written and verbal communication methods.
  • Ability to work independently and work cooperatively with others; ability to work with employees, business partners, and customers in a friendly and positive manner.
  • Ability to visualize, articulate, and solve complex problems and concepts, and make decisions based on available information.
  • Ability to use judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and effectively plan and organize duties to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work with concentration, accuracy, and attention to detail.

Who is Brice Construction & Design LLC looking for?
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management required, however, comparable experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis in lieu of a degree.
  • Two – three years’ experience in civil project engineering required.
  • Valid state driver’s license and must be qualified to operate a vehicle under the Company’s Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass a drug, driving, and background screening.
Working Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Brice Construction & Design has a fast-paced multi-tasking office environment requiring a high degree of efficient and effective performance. At times, work is performed outside of the office at indoor and outdoor job sites. Adaptability regarding schedule and design changes and occasional overtime for immediate field support or bid processing may be necessary.
