Job summary

Peterson Power Systems, Inc. seeks a Project Engineer to act as a technical liaison between Sales/Project Managers and customers on standby power systems, industrial engines, and marine projects.

The role requires a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and at least three years of related experience, with an ability to prepare detailed submittals and interface with CAT and other vendors. Up to 10% travel may be required.

  • Minimum of three years of directly related experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to prepare detailed engineering submittals and maintain documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Act as technical liaison between Sales/Project Managers and Customers.
  • Work with contractors/customers on applications and installation questions.
  • Prepare detailed Engineering Submittals for standby power systems, industrial engines, and marine projects.
  • Interface with Caterpillar factory and other vendors to gather documentation.
  • Generate official correspondence and responses to submittal review comments.
  • Prepare Operation and Maintenance Manuals and close-out documentation.
  • Maintain Peterson Power Drawings Database and CAT Drawings Database.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers on assigned projects.
  • Travel up to 10% to customers, vendor meetings, and jobsites.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Act as technical liaison between Sales/Project Managers and Customers.

  • Work with contractors/customers to answer application and installation questions.

  • Preparation of detailed Engineering Submittals for complete standby power systems, industrial engine, and marine projects as assigned.

  • Interface with Caterpillar factory and other outside vendors to gather required documentation.

  • Generate official correspondence and responses to submittal review comments from consulting engineers and contractors.

  • Preparation of Operation and Maintenance Manuals and other close-out documentation as may be required.

  • Maintain and revise the Peterson Power Drawings Database.

  • Maintain and update the CAT Drawings Database.

  • Work in concert with Project Managers on assigned projects.

  • Up to 10% travel to customers and vendor meetings, and jobsites out of our territory.

  • Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.

  • Displays excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with customers/ coworkers, including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.

JOB SCOPE

This position serves in the capacity of the Project Engineer. General discretion and judgment is exercised routinely in the execution of job duties. If errors in judgement or professional execution of responsibilities are made, the consequences to the department can be serious.

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS

Internal contacts consist of all levels of positions in the company from business unit leaders to entry positions. This position regularly deals with employees in exchange of information in person, writing, via telephone or by electronic transfer. Sensitivity is required in dealing with such information and decisions concerning the release or sharing of that information. External contacts may consist of labor leaders, lawyers, government representatives, employees and managers, vendors and consultants.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree from a fully accredited college in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or other closely related field; and a minimum of three years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
